Except for the theft part, sounds to me like we should be testing people for sleep deprivation. Or cigarette smoking withdrawls. I don’t want people going in to work on drugs or drunk, and I can understand companies not wanting to hire people who are heroine addicts, but smoking pot on the weekends? Who cares…
Have you seen any cases of primary TCA abuse, broomstick? I am curious. I’ve seen far more dextromethorphan, prednisone, sudafed, and even Afrin ™ nasal spray abuse than I have TCA’s. Hell, I’ve seen diphenhydramine abused more.
Of course, the consequences of TCA abuse are more dire (sudden cardiac death is common), but I cannot recall the last time I ran across a case of abuse and dependence on TCA’s. I know they have been reported in the literature, but mostly what I’ve seen have been addicts taking fistfuls of it because they assume an antidepressant is a primary mood altering drug.
Gee, Qagdop, hate to sound jaded but I’ve just about everything… at least in regard to addicts suitable for outpatient treatment (and a few who should have been inpatient)
Yes, I’ve seen… oh, 2 primary TCA addicts. Both Chicago North Shore/Gold Coast trophy wives. The same two who never wanted to sit in the lobby with the junkies. You’re correct, they are rare.
More often, it’s an indication that some other drug use is going on. Folks on speed use 'em to calm down. Heroin/opiate addicts try 'em thinking they’ll help with withdrawal (no, they won’t). And then there’s that class of individuals who will try anything once. Or twice. Or fifteen times.
I agree all the others you name are more common. Maybe the TCA screening is a remnant from an earlier time. And sometimes I think it’s a sneaky way to screen for mental illness
The addiction that sort of struck me as most bizarre while I worked in the business was an isopropyl alcohol addict. Not just any rubbing alcohol, mind you, it had to be Osco house brand isopropyl, which he drank by the pint. A rubbing alcohol connesseur. At 69 cents a pint it was cheap and easy to get. Oh, man, the smell when that oozed out of his pores… {{{shudder}}} Can’t imagine it did his innards any good. “Twitchy and incoherent” are the two words that come to mind to describe him. Sort of a cross between a normal alcoholic and a huffer.
Cognito, save yourself the time and worry (not to mention pointless debate) and hie yourself over to the head shop, where you will find an assortment of fine products available for selection and purchase. I highly recommend the Terminator Gold 3000 as it has worked for friends, relatives, cow-orkers and indeed, myself, many times over the years. It’s under $30, comes in a plastic bottle from which you drink the vile contents, then refill with water and drink again. Tastes bad, but definitely works. Pee twice for yourself, then once for The Man. Works like a charm.
I just knew it. I knew that a thread of this nature would attract someone trying to tell how to beat a drug test.
This thread is closed. Someone please Pit jane_says, as I am seriously considering proactively closing all drug threads in the future. That would not help much in the fight against ignorance, but it would at least help in the fight against ignoramuses.
