Drum n Bass Newbie Sampler

Listening to DJ Cam’s early work, specifically The Beat Assassinated, which touched on a hard-driving electronic side of him that I hadn’t seen before, I’ve been inspired to introduce myself to the world of DnB. But I don’t really know where to start. Which works are representative of the genre? Put another way, if a friend asked you to introduce them to Drum n Bass, what albums would you burn them?

Check out The Art of Noise’s “The Drum and Bass Collection”. I really like Eye of a Needle, Yebo, Kiss, and Crusoe in particular on it.

Off to Cafe Society.

Listen to BBC Radio 1 show “Fabio and Grooverider”, which starts in about 50 minutes time from this post.

Here’s their homepage - BBC Radio 1 - Fabio and Grooverider

It streams worldwide and you can listen to the show for seven days after broadcast. I’m not a huge D’n’B fan, but that pair have been on the scene since it’s beginning.

Oh and the album that brought D’n’B to the semi-mainstream here is Goldie’s Timeless - particularly the (fucking awesome) track Inner City Life.

You might also like some of Martyn Bennett’s works. Try the third video on this page (Titled Glasgow King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut). That song is Spree off his album Hardland. It’s not an easy album to find anymore. It’s on my wish list.

Adding: You can listen to soundclips of some of the songs on his various albums on his site. This is how I know the name of the song in the video.
