That’s, er, pretty much it. Gimme what you got. I wish I could tell you more about what I like, but I don’t know enough about the D&B scene to narrow it down. So far, though, I’ve heard some of DJ Cam’s drum and bass forays and DJ Marky’s Essential Mix set and was more impressed by the former.
Art of Noise: The Drum and Bass collection is actually good.
The White Stripes?
I’m not very familiar with DJ Cam’s dnb mixes, but here are a few very approachable options to get your feet wet:
Pendulum: these guys actually sit somewhere in that vast grey area that exists between jungle and d&b, but very accessible if you’re just starting to get your feet wet. “Streamline” is a good start - their tracks just gets harder and faster from there.
Burial: dark multilayered dubstep. My current favourite track is “Archangel”. Bonus - the whole album can be had on eMusic if you’re not a fan of “borrowing” music.
Logistics: I never seem to get tired of “Kaleidoscope” - it’s pure sunshine wrapped up in breakbeat goodness.
You may also want to lookup some of the granddaddies of the genre, like Aphrodite, LTJ Bukem, Grooverider and Roni Size. They’re oldies, but goodies - Roni’s “Brown Paper Bag” is particularly good.
(now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve just dug up a copy of Freaky Flow’s Tits mix in the process of finding some recommendations… I’m going to go trip down memory lane for a bit and pretend it’s 1999 all over again…)
Personally, I’m more in to the harder stuff, so that’s what I can recommend.
Some of my favourites are:
Current Value
Prode
Evol Intent
Limewax
General Malice
Look on www.dnb-sets.de for some mixes, they are available for free (legally!).
I’ve just recently started getting into D&B myself, and I will point you to the album “Parallel Universe” by 4hero since that’s my favorite so far.
Though I would argue that DnB music should not be listened to in “album form”, if you know what I mean. All Drum n Bass is made to be mixed, with long intros/outros, so that the DJ can beat match it. So, download a couple of mixes by your favourite DJ/producer, it’s usually legal to do that.
