Hey Guin Could you PLEASE refrain from drive by posts for at least ONE thread?
It would take to long to cite everything and it’s all IMO anyway but I’ll just point to fact that he’s now begging the UN for help as a sign that he knows he’s in over his head.
We’re NOT occupying Iraq? Are you fucking kidding me? :dubious:
As for a general with experience administrating a military occupation, meet General Wesley Clark, Supreme Allied Commander of Nato forces in Kosovo.
(Also first in his class at West Point, a Rhodes Scholar, decorated combat veteran of Vietnam, etc. etc. etc…)
I worked with tigers. They get very agitated when they eat, not to mention as feeding time approaches. You can pet a tiger. If you combine feeding and petting, the conventional wisdom is you will lose an arm.
Nobody in the tiger business would put a tiger down for biting around feeding time. But, it isn’t murder. Murder is the killing of a human being. If you’d like to argue for a change in the existing law, that’s fine.
I was reffering to your assertion that our COMMANDER, i.e. the General in charge was not competent.
As for General Clark, I have absolutely no opinion whatsoever. Especially since he’s retired and has no bearing on the situation.
Of course, since you’re trying to turn this into a “vote for my candidate” thing I refuse to participate.
As I stated VERY early in this thread, you seem to hate what we’re doing because you hate Bush.
I am looking at the MW dictionary right now, and it says nothing about slauhtering wantonly.
It says “the crime of unlawfully killing a person esp. with malice aforethought”.
The second and third definitions dont match your claim, either.
I think you just answered your own question there, Rick.
I am just waiting for the Friends of Saddam Society to castigate Clinton, and his warmongering war criminal Clark, for pursuing a illegal war in Serbia. Good God, the Hallowed and Saintly United Nations didn’t sign off on it!!!
Oh, that’s right. I forgot all about the obcene double standard the FoS apply to their own. Carry on, and continue trying to ‘Tet’ Iraq.
News stories are the lifeblood of this board. People constantly post news stories for the purpose of debate, comment and rants. I don’t see you jumping into every other thread with a news link bitching that we should all be saying “if” in every fucking sentence. The fucking “if” goes without saying. You just don’t like this story because it makes a couple of soldiers look bad.
Guess what, dude, Ft. Leavenworth is filled with soldiers who did all kinds of really bad shit including rape and murder. Not all soldiers are perfect. It is not an attack on America to rip those soldiers who fuck up or the commanders who allowed them to fuck up and it’s not a comment on the troops as whole. it’s just a rip on these two fuck-ups and a question about where the leadership was.
There doesn’t seem to be any dispute that the tiger was shot or that the other guy went into the outer cage and had his arm in the cage with the tiger. Those two facts would justify a rant whether alcohol was involved or not.
Amazing. You were quick to quote Swartzkopf who has retired and has absolutely nothing to do with the situation.
Make up your fricking mind.
Mine wasn’t
You and I and the OP all agree that IF the report is true then the people involved need to be punished. The difference is this: When I say they need to be punished I do not feel the need to say “if it is true” because I consider that to be understood. Or do you think anyone here is saying they need to be punished even if it is not true? The point is that it does not look good when you first attack the poster rather than address the issue and then qualify your words in such way that makes it appear like you are not accepting the truth of the report even though you have no evidence to the contrary.
I challenge you to find where I said that you did.
And I do not know whay you have a problem with Guin’s post which goes to illustrate a very central issue being argued which is whether zoo animals who have attacked humans are always destroyed. That is what Milroyj said and now he is whistling in the dark pretending it has nothing to do with him and hoping people will just drop it. What does not belong here is the semantic disquisition about the meaning of murder. That should have its own thread as it is not of the substance of this thread.
I said CiC, as in “Commander in Chief” which is the POTUS.
He’s running for POTUS which means he may become very relevant very soon.
That may be sort of true, but I also cited Clark to show that I would be more supportive of our actions in Iraq if I had some faith in the Commander in Chief.
You’ve got that backwards. I hate Bush because I hate what he’s doing.
Reeder, he mentioned Schwartzkopf in direct response to my statements regarding the availability of alcohol to soldiers in the first Gulf War. His comments regarding him were not intended to have any bearing on the current situation in Iraq, it was a clarification on a minor point about the previous situation in Iraq.
Go to http://www.m-w.com/home.htm . Enter “murder” and hit enter. Click on “murder[2, verb]”. There you go.
I would note that “3 a : to put an end to” would also work.
Miller…the entire OP is about the present. Not something or someone involved 12 years ago.
The action in Kosovo was neither illegal nor a war. It was a peace-keeping mission authorized by Nato and the UN.
Is the best you can do to attack General Clark, because that’s pretty lame. Anyone with any intellectual honesty would have to admit that GWB is not a pimple on Wesley Clark’s ass when it comes to military cred.
You are a moron milroyj, what was stated earlier is very true, OED by any acedemic would have much more weight than MW (snicker). As for you pathetic and moronic analogy: Well, we shall just say you are a moron. If you poke a dead body does it mean you killed it? No, it means somebody else killed it. You didn’t kill the chickens at KFC, the people that KFC get their chickens from killed them.
You are doubly moronic if you think that walking on grass kills it.
Reeder: Right. Discussion of past events has absolutely no place in a debate on the Middle East. It’s strictly a matter of the here and now, and never mind how we get to this point. How silly of me to forget that.
Hi Epimetheus, fuck you too. It’s not possible to murder a tiger.
At least when you lie, you do it with a big smile on your face.
Not a war? Are you high? As for the legality, the war in Iraq was at least as legal as the war in Serbia. Both were approved after the fact by the UN. By your head-up-ass standards, the action in Serbia was every bit as ‘illegal’ as the action in Iraq.
Like I said, I expect nothing but hypocricy and double-standards from the Friends of Saddam. And I am not disappointed by your blabberings.
You know, repeating this over and over doesn’t make it any more true. This is real life, not Tinkerbell’s death scene from Peter Pan.
