Drunken fucktard soldier kills endangered tiger at Baghdad zoo.

Beagle,
I think it’s pretty clear that I wasn’t using the word “murder” in any legalistic sense (actually, my exact words were “tiger-murderer”) nor did I suggest that the shooter should be prosecuted for murder. I was using “murder” to describe what I perceived as the unjustified killing of an innocent animal. That is a perfectly acceptable and well-supported linguistic use of the word. Like it or not, the definition of the word is not limited to its legal definition and what the word means to you is not the standard for debate.

It’s also the least important part of my OP. If I had said that the shooter should be prosecuted for murder for killing a tiger then it would be appropriate and on-topic to flay me for it. As it is, I was simply expressing an emotional reaction to a news story and chose a strong word to condemn the killing of the tiger. Way too much has been made of that choice in this thread.

Well, fuck then, tiger murderers! There, I feel better. I love those big scary dangerous cats. Seriously, they are more exciting to work with than any animal I could imagine other than whales, gorillas, elephants, or something on that scale. If you know their ways and respect them it’s possible to interact with them, eh, without getting bitten. Safely is way too strong a word.

Tigers make a distinct “chuffing” noise if they like you and want you to come near them. Then, you can scratch (carefully, through the fence or bars) under their chins, or their backs and they will bellow. That sound only carries about a mile down a slight breeze.

Welcome to the dark side! I agree, tigers are amazing animals. It was always a dream of mine to work with endangered animals (including tigers) to encourage breeding and re-introduction. Shooting them… kinda opposes that goal.

And while I (and you!) can criticize a Canadian without being anti-Canadian, so can somene criticize an American, even if on active duty, without being anit-American.

That took two seconds. “Chuffing”

Yes, the volunteers do it so the tigers don’t slash at us as we walk by. We like it when the tigers like us. There is nothing in the world that I know of like getting the scent of one male tiger on you and walking by another male tiger.

That will give you nightmares. Well, it did me.

Dman you. I am now sitting here, making ridiculous noises I’m sure sound nothing like chuffing, and my dog is staring at me as if I was crazy.

Dammit. Since I made a crappy coding error. This foundation takes in cats that need a place to live. It’s not a perfect system, to say the least. Ordinary people can buy tigers for not that much money. Then, of course, housing, living, feeding, or controlling a tiger is another matter entirely. Tiger ends up at a rescue foundations after people realize that tigers are actually worse than a 700 pound house cat for a pet, or breeders think a cat is worthless.

Bahl-Shoy just died unfortunately. I don’t think it’s been updated. Anyway, what a face, don’t you think? He would, um, pleasure himself when he saw me and a few other people. Thank goodness he was declawed by his previous owners. That’s where I draw the line.

Chuffing is like a raspberry but with more character and from the gut. Tigers make big noises. Think of a giant bellows making a raspberry.

:smack:

I just killed Bahl-Shoy.

“SABRE” just died.

The news of Bahl-Shoy’s death would greatly surprise him.

Bahl-Shoy rushed me and scared the crap out of me after I had been scratching Sabre’s back and chin.

So has there been any more news on this? When the soldier shot the tiger, was it still hanging on to the other soldier’s arm (in which case I’d understand the shooting a little bit better)? Any news on whether this was a party, with alcohol?

What a strange story. And sad.

Oh, and milroyj is indeed a fucking idiot.

I just read Life of Pi, and it referred to a noise of satisfaction or acceptance that tigers make, called prusten. Is that the same as chuffing (coz in England-land, to chuff is to fart)?

“Prusten” sounds like the German equivalent to the Dutch “proesten”, which means… well, hard to translate, but it would mean something like “snorting whilst exhaling”. Similarly, we would also call it “proesten” when someone laughs with a mouth full of milk/coffee/beer, resulting in the person spraying the liquid.

Sometimes I really should really GBP (google before posting):

“living with” in that one post. Followed by “housing” naturally enough.

“Sab” as I called and chuffed at him used to, eh, show his love. He could be twitchy. One day I could tell he was disturbed. I spent the most time with him because he liked me. He did not like many other people. Well, I told the superv he was upset. One of my friends came over, another volunteer, to see what was up.

She assumed the normal back-scratching position by the fence. I said to her (w/ some visitors present) “Look out, he seems pissed off, he could claw at you under the fence.”

She said: “He’s never done th…”

BAM she was on her ass that fast.

If he had claws or was mean she was seriously injured. Tigers are moody animals. Siberians don’t like the Florida heat one bit.

Oh crap, before anyone nominates me as pet psychic.

Sabre was lying there making unhappy noises and gumming something invisible that seeemed to be annoying him.

It is quite painfully obvious that the soldier with the gun should have just shot his fucktard friend. I mean really, the tiger did nothing wrong… he reacted on instincts… after all that is all they have? Whereas the fucktard should have no right to even breed. Put him down and save the world from having to put up with what im sure could only result in fucktard offspring…

Well, my latest search doesn’t yield much in the way of new information, except for the fact that, according to this story, the US military now confirms that a tiger was shot by a coalition soldier, but did not give any more details.

I must say that i was amazed to find that this thread made it to the fourth page. I mean, it struck me as one of those threads where one could move on after agreeing that the killing of the tiger was awful, and that the soldiers were indeed fucktards.

But, as most people realize by now, there is no limit to how stupid things can get when milroyj drags his knuckles into a thread.

Lately I am becoming quite impatient with the fucktards who, instead of addressing the topic of the thread, choose to disrupt it by nitpicking some stupid little point which has no bearing on the substance of what is being discussed. They make a PITA of themselves until the thread becomes a trainwreck or until it is abandoned in disgust by those with something intelligent to contribute. Half of the posts in this thread are related, not to the OP, but to a couple of fucktards who have decided to do their best to hijack the thread. May they be fucked by rabid tigers with stinking breath. It is the sign of someone who has nothing to add and just wants to make a nuisance of himself. I wish they would choose other ways of passing their time.

I heard he had contracted cat scratch fever and didn’t know what he was doing. Well thats what Ted Nugent said about it.

Coat the soldiers in A1 Sauce®, remove weaponry, and put them in cage with live tigers. Let the punishment fit the crime.

You see, the US Army isn’t run by druids, and does not value animal life over human life.
