I’m gonna start the 10th. By taking in 6 daily liters of Guinness intraveneously (sp?). A man’s gotta be prepared for everything when visiting the City of the Darkest of Beers.
Slainthe!
(Leave me alone. At least I spelled Guinness right ;))

It turns out that if I leave on Thursday instead of Tuesday, I can go direct from Frankfurt to Dublin for about 400DM. Good thing, too, because the ultra-cheapo flight & travel would have taken about 9 hours total. YIKES. I’m going to wait one more day & make sure that nobody else is coming with me, then book. It looks like I’ll be arriving early in the afternoon, it’s easy to get from the airport to the city center, no?
Spiny Norman is going to try and come, too. Woo Hoo!!!
According to the hostel’s website, there is a shuttle that will take you there from the airport, for IR£2.50.
Damn, this is beginning to sound like one hell of a party.
Trion, does your wife realize what she’s getting into?
Are you kidding? I’m not sure I know what I’m getting into.
Duke so you managed to work out how to explain it to the wife then
This will be great craic
Anybody who’s going to be around for some of the wkend and doesn’t have thier own personal plans has a local guide ready and willing to show you around . I could do with seeing what my home town has to show as I’ve never really done the tourist thing.
We can organise this on the night but I would recommend The Dublin Literary Pub Crawl . It’s really good and it’s a good way to havea nice walk around the centre of the city ( weather permiting )
tatertot getting to and from the airport is pretty handy . There are regular buses/shuttles into the centre of town .
And Coldfire if your flight arrives on time we should make town by 9pm easily. The pubs may close quite early but my fridge never closes
(Hope this doesn’t post twice)
The Airlink bus runs very frequently and costs £3 (£2 if you have an Aer Lingus ticket). Make sure to take the one to O’Connell Street, not the one to Heuston Station.
I’ll probably have to go home fairly early on the Thursday night but will be up for more dopeing at the weekend.
I vote we DON’T go to O’Neills this time …
Peter, this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship
Great stuff. Do you live close to the town center? Are the places-to-be close together? In Amsterdam, you can basically do a pub crawl entirely on foot if you want to. Same for Dublin? I’m really curious about the city, I’ve heard great things so far.
I live in the 'burds but the city is quite close ( everything is ) about 1/2hr travel into the centre . It actually is quite like Amsterdam but not as beautiful and only 2 canals and our buildings aren’t as wonky .
When your in the city everything is close and there are a lot of pubs all very close to one another . The pubs will be packed at the wkend but that’s expected .
Getting around is not as easy as Amsterdam ( which BTW is one of my favorite parts of the world ) buses aren’t great , no trams ( ones coming in about 10 - 1000years time , when ever everyone stops moaning about it ) and taxi’s are a nightmare to get after pubs close .
We will have no shortage of things to do and basically can cater for all tastes .
Trion, have a great anniversary. I have an exam on 11th & one on the 17th, so it’s probably not a good idea for me to disappear to Dublin for the weekend (&…[sub] I don’t like guiness…[/sub])
Blasphamy!
Good luck on your exam!
Ya Limey bastard! You could at least spell Guinness right
Well, not exactly But she’s going off to Norway without me so she’ll never know
fierra I agree , Guinness is the Devils spunk . Give me a nice warm glass of bitter anyday
And Duke I hope you drink and talk more than you post looking forward to seeing ya .
yojimbo: I only started posting in August this year, after a protracted time of lurking, posting on a.f.c-a, being in hospital, finishing a thesis, etc.
See you there!
Ruadh, quite right. O’Neills wont be able to cope with all of us anyway!
Duke- when the cats away… or something
Yojimbo- “half a mild” I think its called…
coldfire- I am also a burbian, (unfortunately still with my parents, hey, the rent is cheap). And in Dublin you can do a pub crawl. literally. (infact thats how it ends up a lot of the time!
I might be able to get the friday off work, but If not I will still be out for the pub but not a club and will still be up for partying all weekend long!
So, Yojimbo and John will be my tour guides? Wunderbar! I only wish that I could stay for an entire week! We will be going over to Yojimbo’s to play with his cars, right? I wouldn’t miss that for the world.
Oh, and I feel I must bring this up: [sub]I can’t drink very much[/sub]. It’s the Korean in me, I think. If you tease me about this, I will cry. I mention it, because the waitress at the local Irish pub is always tsk-tsking me when I alternate my beers with ginger ale. Stupid Leprechaun looking twit. Anyhoo, please don’t push me, or I will puke.
And I like Guiness, but I think Kilkenny is much nicer.
Tater, I’ll let you in on a secret… neither am I. I just drink slower.
And I swear, I typed Guinness right, stupid computer messes everything up.
Thanks for the help everybody!
The little Jordan and Ferari are all ready to roll .
And drink what you what when you want to
Soft drinks make the round cheaper anyway
that depends where you are drinking!
