DubDope2000: The Hags with the Bags

Me too - the computer stole the second “n” to stir up trouble…

Yup, I’m a cheap date.

Stupid question: Do they have still water in Ireland, or is it like in Germany where all you can get in the restaurants & bars is that fizzy mineral crap. I need to know if I should bring my big bag (for smuggling in my own water) or not. Lots of water is the key to having a non-puking tatertot.

Sorry for all the stupid questions, I lent out my big book o’ European travel & am trying to track it down.

Oh, and does anybody know how much alcohol I can bring back? I’m not sure if I will be under EU rules or American. Has anyone ever actually been checked? I’ve got a shopping list a mile long…

Misspelling Guinness is bad, but misspelling Ferrari is worse, Yojimbo

What’s up with the car jokes? Some insider info I have been kept unaware of? Jordan and Ferrari? You aren’t Eddie Jordan himself by any chance, huh :stuck_out_tongue:

Tater, my dear, we’re gonna force-feed you Guinness untill you learn to appreciate it

Tater, if you have a residents permit for Germany, you’re under EU rules. If the base you live on is American soil (which I doubt), you might not be.

Plenty of still water .

As to bringing drink back I don’t know but I would assume you can do the same as a euro citizen . A friend of mine just came back from Portugal and brought back a box (24 bottles) of wine .

No duty free anymore within Europe so it costs more .

And I will projectile vomit it on you until you learn my limits. You know, I didn’t like Guinness in the States, but the stuff they have here on tap is pretty good. Smoother. My first choice is still a nice Hefe-Weizen or pilsner, though.

And after a bad experience this weekend, I shall no longer be drinking any Dutch beers. Sorry, but until Grolsch stops making that awful amber or blonde whatever that crap is, I’m afraid I’m going to have to boycott. They Must Be Stopped!

Check this out http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=35240

Coldfire, We are going to have a SDMB grandprix using Yojimbo’s Scalextric set.

Quite badmouthing Grolsch, you heretic

Amber is pretty good for a brand that usually only excells at pilsner (lager). Grolsch is the stuff I usually drink at home.

Then again, a nice Erdinger Weizen is pretty damn good as well!

SCALECTRIX!!! I get to be Schumacher, you incompetent drunk Cabbies!! Move over for Der Meister!

“The Irish Miniature Grand Prix is brought to you by Guinness”

Coldfire, are we talking about the same Amber Grolsch? Probably not, they probably export this shit over here to get revenge on the Germans…but you got to remember, there are innocent Americans here, too! Like my friend David says “It tastes like a disco toilet at 3am”.

OMG! I went to the scalectrix site to see if TinyTot might want one for Christmas, and they have some really cute cars. I want one of those tiny Volkswagen Cabriolets with the tiny people inside…do you have that one, Yojimbo?

Now please, nobody respond to this thread because I’m supposed to be working and y’all are distracting me.

Oh dear God, what am I getting into?

At this hour of the morning, I’d say bed

Dubs (and Ruadh), where should this be? I’m trying to think of a big boozer that doesn’t play deafening crap music, has aircon for the non-smokers, stays open late-ish on a Thursday, and has an ounce of class. Not easy let me tell ya.

The Odeon ?

The place that used to be Pierot’s(sp?) snookerhall (biggest pub I’ve been in )

The Bridge (under Bewleys on Westmorland St. )

Hmmm. I vote for the Bridge, only 'cause I have to work the next morning and it’s less of a haul for me to get back home

The Odeon’s quite good though. A bit far out …

More just popped to mind .

The Front Lounge

Thomas Reads

Oliver S. Gogerthy’s

I have to travel to all pubs so it doesn’t really bother me .

How about the Budha bar  It’s right beside where I live and has a 30ft Budha in it . Hey, ya gotta try !

So, where are all these fine establishments located?

The Bridge is about as central as you can get - right by O’Connell St, Trinity College, etc.

The Odeon is I think on Harcourt Street, further south a ways, still fairly convenient if you’re staying in the Temple Bar area.

Where is everyone staying btw? That might help us choose.

I’m staying near St. Stephen’s Green West (a 2 minute walk, apparently hehe). Tater’s also staying at the same hostel.

You’re closer to the Odeon then.

Well, hell, I can always take a cab home
