The weekend that all this shit went down, not being privy to the threads or posters involved, I spent more time than was warranted trying to get the gist of all the serious and ominous comments…the police are involved…the lawyers are involved…etc. So, here’s poor me, who doesn’t spend his every waking minute on this board, left to speculating what to hell occurred. A prolific, and annoying poster by the initials RD, was banned right in the middle of this other fiasco. haHA!, I said to myself…he totally flipped out, strapped on his talked about big pistol, and headed out on a one way trip to Chicago, destination, The SD offices…if there are offices…Man! I Googled every Chicago newspaper, digging for info on a shooting, and I ended up being so disappointed, you wouldn’t believe.

Because(I’m going for a comparison, not a true analogy) that’s the same kind of justification an abused woman usually comes up with as a reason why she’s staying with her husband: “But it’s only when he’s drunk. I really don’t care how much unpaid work she put in. That shouldn’t factor, because then we end up in a situation where fuck ups must be weighed against previous accomplishments. And I think there should be absolute boundaries for mods and admins as well. It shouldn’t matter how much a person contributes to the board, when judging if that person is a jerk or not. Iknow the mods do this, when they’re discussing the banning of a long time poster. That’s their choice. But when of of their own fucks up, in a monumental way, previous work must be disregarded, precisely because that person has been instrumental in banning other posters for jerkish actions before.
In essence, the credibility of SDMB rests on a foundation that no one is above the law. If exceptions are made, because a mod has worked for free for x number of years, then we end up in a situation where we must grade actions with work. Should Xash get away with the same stuff? Tomndebb? IIRC Manny got demoted for something far less serious.
I don’t have any personal info, I paid through PayPal and in any case,I’ve got nothing illegal to hide. However, as a journalist, I have a very strong respect for the protection of sources. I also think that even the creepiest slimeball deserves his/her day in court. And I think a lot of actions (in general) are made because people think they have the moral high ground, and thus, can disregard legalities, common sense and decency and just pile on, feeling safe because they think no one will stand up and defend the rights of the slimeball.
I for one think that justice is served when the slimeball gets a fair hearing - not when the slimeball gets kicked in the gonads by a randomself righteous prick. Because that doesn’t bring justice to the slime ball, it just serves to make the gonad kicker feel better about him/her self.
And that’s the problem I have with TD - her actions only made her feel better. And for that, she violated trust.

In the end, with all ‘mitigating’ and ‘exacerbating’ circumstances considered, it was that sneer, that ‘I bet you won’t give it to me either, so I’m going to do this here.’ that bothered me the most.
It was the fact that she knew what she was doing was wrong, that it was against the rules she agreed to follow when she took the position, yet the deliberate, knowing, flouting of them anyway that really made it wrong.
When you’re an admin, and you break confidentiality, it’s wrong and it’s probably the end of your job. But it’s a million times worse if you flaunt the fact that you know you’re breaking the rules because you’re being petty and mean - and that’s what she did.
Her words weren’t of ‘I need to do this to be a good person.’ They were the words of someone who said ‘Nyah Nyah I got you.’
I still think that despite what was said about things that ‘happen off board’, I’d be banned immediately if I pulled a ‘Nyah Nyah I got you.’ on one of the mods or admins. And I’m not even asking that she be banned. I just don’t think she should ever be trusted with admin status or mod status again.

Get some fucking perspective. Yes, it’s a serious matter. But just as Duck Duck Goose needs to lay off the superior attitude, so do you. It is possible for reasonable people to disagree. Having a different opinion than you does not make someone a rim-jobbing love slave of the administration, and making the comparison does you no credit and advances your point not at all.
Adopting a more reasonable tone might just stand a chance of winning someone on the other side over to yours. As it is, I’m beginning to consider renewing my membership as a sign of support just to differentiate myself from you.
