I just upgraded my phone and now on the new phone every calendar event appears twice, once as My Calendar and once as CookingWithGas@gmail.com (not my real gmail address). I think the phone has a local calendar, and is syncing its local calendar with my Google calendar. But it is also showing the Google calendar itself. I just want one. There is a checkbox next to my gmail account that I can clear, but when I exit the settings and go back in, it’s checked again.
I did not have this problem on my previous Android phone. Anybody ever hear of this, and better yet, know what to do about it?
Yeah, I had something like that. Samsung galaxy skyrocket.
TBH, I don’t know how I fixed the problem. I think the eventual fix was a third party widget. I use go launcher, but with touch wiz I had Jorte Calendar. Either that or Go Calendar has the option of selecting which calendar to display, and I always went straight for the Gmail account. Make sure in settings under “accounts,” you don’t have any duplicates!
Calendar data can get corrupted on the mobile. If you go to Settings -> Applications -> Calendar (or whatever, I’m going from memory), there is a button to clear data. If you push it, it will clear the Calendar data on your mobile. Don’t worry, though, the next time the mobile synchs with Google, it will pull up your calendar data from Google’s calendar. Alas, it only pulls 3 months (I think) of calendar data from the past.
So just make sure your Google calendar is up-to-date before deleting all the Android data. I have to do this every few months because I hate Google and Google knows it and so they arrange to eff up my calendar.
I’m guessing this is a Samsung phone, yes? It’s a known issue with their skinning of Android (called TouchWiz.) I had the same issue with my old original Galaxy S phone.
And yes, the only solution is to go into the calendar options and turn off “My Calendar” (I think that’s what it’s called,) but keep “CookingWithGas@gmail.com” calendar checked. There’s no way to “delete” the local calendar, you can only turn it off.
I am trying to do this on the My Calendars screen. I uncheck the box, but when I go back to the calendar the events are still there, and when I return to this screen it’s checked again.
Ok, I looked into it and remembered some more…you can’t turn off the “My Calendar” on Samsung phones. You just have to make sure when you create a new calendar item, to select the gmail account to create it in, not the local one. However, I’m not sure how to delete he duplicate events already there. Also, my knowledge is from the first gen. of the Galaxy S phones from 2010, running Android 2.1-2.3, not sure what it’s like on ICS/JB.
Have you tried doing what Karen Lingel suggested to clear the data?
