I gotta assume this has been asked before but don’t see anything relatively current so here goes.

How many e-mails do you send/receive a day.

I catch myself e-mailing folks that are literally in the office next door on whether they want to go to lunch, go for a drink after work, etc. I also catch myself in seemingly endless e-mail threads that could have been more quickly addressed if I had just picked up the phone or gotten off my lazy butt and walked down the hall to talk face to face. Seems kind of nutty at times.

Today I’ve sent 38. I try to phone people as much as possible, it’s just nicer to talk to a person than type an email.

Specific mails or mails * number of recipients?

Mine varies wildly. Some days I just send a few, and some days I send a lot to reasonably large mailing lists.

40-50/day.
pretty consistent.
about 10 of them are to myself. I email myself to remind me of something that I have to do. Either at my desk or at home. Frequently my coworkers and I will have a meeting and someone will email the group with a summary of what was discussed. Talking is all well and good, but there is no record (fortunately in some cases!).

In my current position only about 20-25 a day or so, in my previous job I received more like 50-60 a day. I try and talk to people or have phone conversations where possible, email is used to communicate with more than one person or present particularly complex information or send attachements.
