The e-mail record?

Okay, I am out of the country right now, and I have been checking my Hotmail account more-or-less daily. For the last few days I have been averaging about 15 e-mails A DAY! I kid not! There is a pretty even split between junk mail and all my friends who knew I was leaving the country and for some reason felt compelled to e-mail me at that time.

Anyway, what is the most e-mails you have ever recieved in one sitting? Junk mails and spam count. My record is 144, but there was a friendly spam war going on between me and my then-girlfriend.

I got 600+ in one day once. That was the day that the owner of one of my e-mail mailing lists and a couple of his buddies decided to have a spam war on-list.

I got 772 after being offline for two weeks. TWO mailing lists I was on (busy ones!) had massive flamefests.

This from otherwise charming people.

I’m on some mailing lists, so I average about 60 per day. The most I ever got was on a list that one member had set her vacation message to reply whenever she received an email. The listserve couldn’t handle it, and spammed it over 600 times over the course of a weekend.

The only thing I considered worse was the bozos who knew what the deal was, and still wrote the list to complain, thereby adding to the problem.

1,247 after 10 working days off

I never counted them, but at one point, my system was going nuts. I’d check messages, and open mail, delete it etc. But then, the next time it checked for messages, it’d start with the same 4 or 5 that I’d already opened. try that for a few days…

The most I ever had at once was 428. That’s when I was gone for 10 weeks.

465 after being off work for a couple days… no spam either, all work related though. Took me forever to catch up.

Uhhh, seven. Five of them were junk. I guess I need to find people willing to send me e-mail :frowning:

¡Ay Dios mio! And I thought 144 in one day was a lot!

You all put me to shame. :stuck_out_tongue:

calc.exe I suggest you try it, lizard. I think you’ll find that your single day count is higher than his average daily count.

I think maybe 5 or so. Except in hotmail, which I only check once every few weeks, the highest usually being something like 20 or so. I’m a loser.

One morning I came to work and found an auto-notification system for our server had gone haywire. I had 14254 new emails, with a new one ariving every second. Enoyingly enough, another auto system was emailing me to tell me that the public drive was nearing capacity, particularly in my mail directory.

976 after being gone for 4 days.

I’m on over 15 mailing lists, which explains it.

This may not count but email is one of the mediums I annoy my friends by so one day I sent my friend about 100 emails. And another friend I sign up for a lot of email newsletters (about half of them from foreign websites) so I estimate he gets about 20 newsletters or more every week just from what I sign him up for. I have fun.

I’m not sure what the most is. I’m on a couple of mailing lists for jokes and web tips, and I get mail regarding my website (not a lot, but some here and there), and I get a lot of mail from my friends, although again, it’s usually jokes. I know that I have 3 mailboxes I regularly use, and when I get lazy about checking it, I’ll often find that in the last week or so I’ve got 100 new e-mails in my Netscape, 20-30 non-spam e-mails in my Hotmail, and a bunch of trivia and riddle e-mails in my ISP account.

I don’t know why I don’t just unsubscribe to some of this stuff. Most of the time, I’m in too much of a hurry to read it all, and just delete anything that’s not from a friend, or anything that looks like glurge.

When I used to have an AOL e-mail account, I used to get 50 or 60 a day, all of them per spam. Like an idiot, I then signed up for a Hotmail account. Between the two e-mail accounts, I was averaging 150 e-mails a day, at least 145 of them complete junk. I’ve since canceled both. I now only average maybe 8-10 in a day.

The very first time I checked my e-mail, I had 2,956 messages waiting for me. My friends had had an eight-month headstart on the e-mail war. I read every one of those messages (eyeballs still recovering), and I must have replied to about half of them.

I’ve checked my mail daily since then, so it can’t accumulate like that anymore. I’d say the most I’ve gotten in one day since then was 200.

When my friend in Minnesota went to California and Las Vegas for a short trip, she told us to NOT send her a lot of e-mail, because otherwise she’d exceed her disk quota. Us evil bastards (there were four of us) must have sent about 20 messages each every day. And we always included the entire message when we replied.

Replying to them all would have been a nice touch.

What were all those messages ABOUT?
