I get lots of mail. However, I have a zillion or two rules set up in Outlook, so much of the spam goes directly to the Deleted Items folder - well, that which isn’t deleted from the server from the git-go.
I also get a lot of emails from here, as I have email notification turned on.
So I’m going to try a little experiment. I’m going to now delete all of the messages in my Deleted Items folder (to count the ones that get sent there directly) and in my Inbox. I’m curious as to how many messages I get over a 24-hour period.
All right. Here I go. According to my computer clock, it’s 9:21 PM Eastern Time. I can never remember if it’s EST or EDT at any particular moment. But I digress.

Ahhhhh that felt good.
FILL ME UP BABY!
Hey! Keep it down, Inbox.
How about you guys? How much email do you think you get within a 24 hour period? No, you don’t have to do this experiment - just guess.
Between 100-200 emails. It sounds like a lot, but I’ve been in several email groups for about 8 years and we’re all close. And then I belong to several email groups about television shows, two writers’ groups, and then random email from friends. I also read and respond extremely fast, so it takes me very little time to get through it.
Work e-mail: probably around 50 per day.
Personal e-mail: used to be 10 a day…but when I registered on the SDMB, I made some sort of horrible mistake: I now receive an e-mail after someone replies to a thread I’ve posted on. I freaked the first time I opened it to reveal 150 new messages. I need to go fix that right now.
Does anyone remember how we functioned/communicated before e-mail existed??
I get a couple hundred a day, but most of that is from a high-volume email list I’m on. Other emails, maybe 2-3 a day. I get hardly any spam - maybe 2-3 a month, if that.
Can’t you set the Outlook rules to not even download spam from the server? I know it’s possible with Outlook Express.
I get about 6 billion spam e-mails (a rough estimate) and about ten personal e-mails. 70% of those spams involve some sort of penis enhancement site or a porno ad.
well, in one of my hotmail accounts i probly get 30 joke type emails a day, not counting the crap that lands in my junk mail filter area, which i sort of browse thru just in case somebody isn’t on my safe list. the other hotmail account is full of porn and stuff i didn’t check it for 2 days and had something like 300 new emails arrrrrrrrggggggggg. i don’t even want to think about my isp email box which is constantly flooded with advertisement and trash, probly close to another 40 to 50 pieces there. what i really hate is when friends will send me some piece of trash chain letter thingy, then i get it from about 5 or 6 other people the same dang day! don’t these people look at the address line thing that lists all the people the first person already sent it to? oh sorry this probly belongs in the pit.
Personal e-mail, maybe 4-5. I would cut it down to 2-3 but I’m on an e-mail notification list for some stuff.
Work e-mail: 1-2. I’m utterly irrelevent. Actually, I just avoid dealing with the public or anyone outside my floor whenever possible. In our office, we just use the e-mail to send documents to each other. If we need to just give a message we usually just use the phone or walk down and do it face-to-face.
On the non-spam free account, between 5-20 e-mails, all either SDMB replies, check out sexy barely legal college girls named Melissa on their web cams, diet successfully, or offers to enlarge my non-existant penis. Monkey Mensch: Spam is the e-mail equivalent of mail’s junk mail…unsolisitied crap that you don’t want and have to go through and delite, usually porn offers.
[hijack] The other day, my mother said, “Orange, did you know they’ve proposed a bill to make it illegal to send spam through the mail?!” shakes head She thought it had something to do with mad cow disease getting mailed into other countries through cans of spiced ham. [/hijack]
