E3 presentations started today. Feel free to list the announcements that interest you.
I used to be interested in this show, but it seems to be flashier, but less interesting and more gimmicky each year. Not trying to be down about it, but the list of games and stuff seems to be smaller, too, and the titles tend to be tedious sequels to games that were overbudgeted in the first place.
Madden 2019 will be on PC which is pretty cool, it hasn’t been since 2008. I might get it, if the series is at a good point right now. It seems kind of cyclical.
Why in God’s name would you set Kingdom Hearts 3, a massively anticipated game to release AFTER the Holidays? And not like in February like Anthem…but JUST after?
The Microsoft conference was pretty good, with lots of stuff that looks good but doesn’t really appeal to me :). The Division looked good, but I don’t know why they insist on that scripted online banter style of demo.
People sometimes complain about a lack of content, but it seems to me that each console has more good stuff than I could ever play. Not to mention Steam, or Netflix, or YouTube, or …
That scripted player banter was so incredibly awful. That’s not a reflection on the game, of course, but man was that bad. Although is that’s what the marketing teams think players sound like in game, it explains a lot.
I really don’t pay attention to E3 and just watch the trailer/game play videos after the fact.
Doom & Prey Sequels - Yes, please. Loved both of these titles and I need more so make it happen.
Metro Exodus - Big fan of 2033 & Last Light. Hoping they keep more or less the same approach here. I don’t mind semi-open world like Stalker but I don’t need Metro: Skyrim. Funny that they say it’s based on 2035 when it has almost nothing in common with the book (I assumed Last Light was called that since it has nothing to do with Metro 2034 either).
Wolfenstein: Young Blood - I liked the last one but it didn’t recapture the fun of the The New Order. Here’s hoping they learned from The New Colossus and nail it this time.
Cyberpunk 2077 - Not enough information about the game itself to really know yet but it looks like fun. Everyone’s excited for it anyway.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider - Lara seems to have acquired a Kevlar halter top and an even worse accent. It’s modern TR, I’m sure I’ll like it.
We Happy Few - I lost interest in this during the buy-out and pricing debacle. I’ll catch it a Humble Monthly someday.
The Division 2 - Optimistic since The Division eventually turned into a fun game and has great world building. Hoping they don’t make a microtransaction farm after Div1 was so accessible.
Wreckfest - I’m as surprised as anyone that this game is still alive.
Fear the Wolves - STALKER Battle Royale. Eh, I think half the atmosphere of Stalker came from its slow burn approach and can’t get too excited here.
Battlefield V - More Battlefield, sure why not.
Bethesda Open World Games - Bethesda seems bent on killing the independent modding community so they can profit off the Creation Club. That alone makes me a lot less enthusiastic. Plus, I enjoyed FO4 but didn’t really feel like it was a “must play” sort of game. Not interested in Fallout as MMO. I can wait on these.
Anthem - Looks cool but pew-pew lasers & robot suits future-tech sci fi isn’t really my favorite genre so it’s hard to get too excited. No fault of the game though.
Anything else I either haven’t watched the trailers for yet, just don’t have interest in the title or it’s not a PC title.
Doom Eternal’s trailer looks great and hints at new enemy types, including that most vile one: DOOM Eternal – Official E3 Teaser - YouTube
I wasn’t able to find Prey 2’s trailer, is it not out yet?
CD Projekt’s take on Cyberpunk could be nice. Syndicate seemed to only borrow the shallow aspects of cyberpunk but CD Projekt isn’t known for shallow games. We might get a proper Deus Ex sequel.
Cyberpunk 2077 deff. looking amazing
The main reason I got a PS4 was for Spider-Man, so super excited for that. Also, The Division 2. Ghost of Tsushima looked pretty great.
A Plague Tale: Innocence sounds interesting. There’s a lot of buzz about the tech around the rats – supposedly rendered and controlled independently instead of one unit made of a hundred rats giving the illusion – but the story seems interesting as well. You’re a French girl trying to escape your town with your younger brother during the Inquisition and a rat plague. Your brother learns from your behaviors, becoming braver or more callous towards life, etc based on what you do to escape.
I’m a bit disappointed by the FromSoft news about their new game (Seiko: Shadows Die Twice). There had been some speculation that the game might turn out to be a Bloodborne sequel or a Dark Souls goes to Japan kind of deal, but early returns suggest that the game features a predefined, non-customized protagonist and limited RPG/customization elements in general. So it’s going to be Nioh, but better, which is fine, I guess, but not the game I was hoping to get. Oh, well.
That game would be amazing.
Well, I found one thing I’m actually excited for: Cyberpunk 2077. That looks fun, exciting, and for once, interesting. And it looks like it’s more than just “in production” as while they didn’t show anything to audiences, reviewers and insiders got a 50-minute live preview. Those videos are not too far off from the actual gameplay!
