So E3 is this week and this is the thread to discuss presentations, announcements, hype trains, etc.
The Microsoft conference is today at 1230 eastern. I’ve greatly enjoyed my Xbox and my Surface Pro 3, so I’m excited to see what Microsoft has in store.
Remember: This is all best case scenario stuff. Don’t get too excited about anything you see.
An announcement of a new Doom game, an Elder Scrolls…card…thing, a new Dishonored (!!!) and more details about Fallout 4, including that it is coming out THIS NOVEMBER!
Like I said in a different thread, I am psyched for EA because I’m dying for some Mass Effect news
I saw somewhere that they’ve been working on it more or less since FO 3, they’ve just kept it all under wraps. It’s not like they are starting from scratch.
I thought it was an interesting presentation. You can see that Microsoft is taking seriously their stated intention to integrate PC and console gaming. The new controller looks sweet, I think one of the games has cross-platform gaming, and this mod thing could be amazing, although I’m not sure how they’re going to work out the latter.
I’m intrigued by ReCore. I mostly like that it’s not dreary with seven shades of gray and brown.
Microsoft’s E3 was extremely underwhelming. The only decent things I saw were ReCore (no gameplay), Rare’s pirate game (no real gameplay), and Cuphead (also on PC).
Keep in mind that the backwards compatibility is curated, that is, only games they take specific effort to work on will be on there. You probably won’t be able to pop in more obscure games like Tales of Vesperia in there, at least not for a long while.
Not only do I have to wait until Christmas of NEXT GODDAMN YEAR for the new Mass Effect (Andromeda it’s apparently called), but I got NO information on a revamped version of the original trilogy.
Doom 4: I just don’t want this game to be a trainwreck like Duke Nukem Forever. It looks alright - don’t think it’ll be great or worth playing more than once, but should be fun for a playthrough.
Mass Effect: Andromeda: Pretty much zero real information so hard to say anything, really. I loved the Mass Effect series all the way up until the last thirty minutes of the third game, but damn if those last 30 minutes didn’t put a bad taste in my mouth. I remain interested but EA has a hill to climb.
The Old Republic: Knights of the Fallen Empire: My friend excitedly told me there was a new KOTOR, which made me very happy. Then I found out it was just another MMO expansion. BOO! BOOOOOO!
Final Fantasy 7 Remake: color me EXTREMELY surprised this is happening - I always kinda felt it would never happen as the game is just too large to remake with current-day graphics. Excited to know more, though.
Dishonored 2: Weirdly enough, the trailer actually made me less interested in playing the game after watching. Not sure why it didn’t speak to me.
I predict lots of reviews gushing over emotion and calling it art, giving high scores but conveniently overlooking that as a game it is really quite basic and poor.
Well then send them over to the trailer for Lost Horizon (or was it just Horizon?) and they can have feminist boners over badass-robo-killing-Indian-girl
Cite? I went and checked Feminist Frequency website and twitter account and saw nothing like this. Did Anita give an interview where she said something like this?
I thought the argument was that there were too many exclusive male protagonists. Looking at a single game, it is not sexist to have an exclusive male protagonist if it serves the narrative. The problem lies in that the majority of games have exclusive male protagonists, a smaller percentage give a choice, and a very small percentage have an exclusive female protagonist.
“At this point?” That’s all they have ever been. They are scum who got paid $200,000 to complain about how much they hate female characters in video games.
She didn’t say it was sexist. She did say that she was disappointed that there wasn’t an exclusively female protagonist. I suppose there’s an argument there that, if you want equality, you should be happier with both male and female options rather than being upset that you’re not forced into a female option.
She also complained about the excessive violence in DOOM and that Fallout 4’s crafting system was used almost exclusively to make guns so I guess there’s plenty of material if you wanted to roll your eyes at her anyway.
