The E3 Thread

The only game I was interested in was Doom 4. I was cautiously optimistic when I heard they wanted to go away from the Doom 3 realistic horror style and return to the roots. Fast, lots of enemies, huge guts, etc.

Not sure if I’ve ever been so deflated over a simple video game trailer. It’s like they did everything wrong on purpose.

Clearly the modern gaming industry has left me in the dust. I just thought if there was one FPS that would buck all the terrible modern conventions this might be it. Nope.

I was looking around to see other people’s reactions. There’s a sizable old school contingent complaining and pointing out the obvious, which made me feel a little better. But there was a surprising amount of hype about it. And a lot of people saying they like it because it’s similar to Doom 3. There were even people complaining it was too action-y and they wanted more horror elements. The mind boggles.

You’re right - that’s what I get for paraphrasing a tweet I’d seen a day or so previous. I agree that her “you’re not a feminist if you’re not a pacifist” schtick is also a bit weird.

Anyway, back to games: a PS4 exclusive Horizon Zero Dawn is stupidly pretty. Who wants to go bow-hunting robot dinosaurs in long-post-apocolypsia?

That game is probably the only thing that peaked my interest coming out of Sony. Looks so good.

Nintendo’s conference was weak this year, however next year’s should be interesting, (Nintendo’s Universal Studio’s plans, Nintendo NX, Mobile integration.)

‘Super Mario Maker’ looks superb! I simply can’t wait for it.

‘Star Fox 0’ looks great, but there’s nothing extremely unique.

The Zelda game for 3DS looks great, but I hope single player mode is meaty enough, since it may be hard for me to find.

I’m really happy to be a Wii U owner, even though I was disappointed at first to have received it as a gift.

Yeah, the Nintendo thing was pretty flat. I wonder why they did the Smash stuff and the Earthbound announcement separately. Those seem like good fits for their main event.

That Earthbound Beginnings thing was such a great, probably accidental troll, everyone for a brief second thought we were getting Mother 3.

I’m on the floor to support Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture and Fat Princess Adventures, both of which I was involved in making. Stuff I’ve seen I liked:

Cuphead
Gang Beasts
The new Rainbow Six

Oh, and Thumper. Thumper totally rocks.
