Here’s an updated chart. Sorry for the delay; was off sick with the dreaded Lurgy (i.e., COVID-19). Again, I’ve added only those shows where posters were kind enough to specify the years. We’ve still got whole swaths of states to fill.
I’m appealing not counting Community (2009 to 2014), which Wikipedia calls a sitcom, located “in the fictional Colorado town of Greendale”. Also The Middle, Indiana, 2009 to 2018.
Oops… it seems I had inadvertently scrolled past a few pages of replies. Here’s a more complete chart. Would be nice to get some years for some of the other shows that people have mentioned by name only (provided that they would result in an addition or change to the table).
Wikipedia says Center of the Universe “is an American sitcom… that aired on CBS from October 27, 2004 until January 19, 2005… set in downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma”.
Bob Hearts Abishola is a currently running sitcom set in Michigan. And I Love Lucy moved to Westport, Connecticut for episodes that aired from December 1956 to June 1957. And if that is overruled on a technicality, Who’s The Boss? was also set in Connecticut starting in 1977.
A more recent Florida sitcom than Empty Nest is Fresh Off The Boat, which ended in 2020 (2015-2020).
Bob’s Burgers is a newer sitcom (animated) that takes place in an un-named town on the north Jersey shore. (2011-present)
Has anyone seen the show Joe Pera Talks With You? It’s a comedy but just pint-sized (11 mins as opposed to 22, and only 8 episodes per season), on Adult Swim. Episodes have plots, there is a set cast of characters. Is it considered a sitcom? Wikipedia calls it a “Comedy Show”. It’s not a sketch show or anything. Anyway it takes place in Marquette, MI. (2018-present)
Wikipedia calls that a “comedy-drama”. Is there a distinction between comedy-drama and sitcom? If so, I’m not sure what it is. But if there’s no distinction, then add this one
Alaska: Northern Exposure, 1990-1995, which it also calls a comedy-drama.
Similarly, Wikipedia calls this one an “action comedy”:
Georgia: The Dukes of Hazzard 1979-1985. Don’t know if that counts or not.
Filthy Rich (Dixie Carter, Delta Burke and Linda Bloodworth-Thomason before Designing Women) was set in Memphis from 1982-83. Those two and Still the King were the only Tennessee sitcoms I found in the appropriate Wikipedia category. (Gun Shy is listed there, but it sure seems to be set in California. I assume the confusion arose because Delta Burke appeared in it.)
