At first, I was a little skeptical, but when I found out it was only a six episode arc I became way more excited about it.
The main character is an all but irredeemable bastard, and the writers are clearly loving writing him. It is hands down the most quotable show I have seen in some time.
We like it- it’s just pure fun with not a whole lot of redeeming value. He’s really a bastard! My only complaint is that his brother doesn’t get more of the good lines (he did really well with the one-liner comebacks in Deadwood…“wanna fight?”)
A little wisdom from Kenny Power’s autobiographical book on tape: “You’re Fucking Out, I’m Fucking In.” Read by Kenny Powers:
“They say Kenny is a women hater. That’s not true. I love women. Each and every one of them. Even the ugly as shit ones. But don’t ask me to trust them, not even one… Cause every pair of tits comes with a gaping hole of need that not even Kenny Powers can fill.”
“I never bothered with the American Indian mythology. You can smoke a peace pipe 'till your dick falls off, but I ain’t gonna dance with no fucking wolves no matter how high I get. Not that I get high, but if I did my shit would still believe in the lord our savior Jesus Christ.”
“If there is one thing in life I hate it’s losing. If there are two things in life I hate it’s losing, and getting cancer.”
I’ve been blessed with many things in this life. An arm like a damn rocket, a cock like a Burmese python, and a mind of a fucking scientist."
“So people often ask me; “Kenny, what is your biggest weakness, do you have any?”. I would say that my biggest flaw, my Achilles heel is my tireless work effort…”
In the first couple of episodes I thought he was coming off a little too assholish, too much of a bully, with no comeuppance. In the last couple of episodes, he’s been getting some shame and some smackdowns, which help to temper things a bit. He’s still done absolutely nothing to redeem himself, but at least he’s been given some humility.
That was horrible when he knocked that guy’s eye out. I felt bad for laughing.
Am I the only one who thinks that Kenny Powers is more than a little inspired by John Rocker?
Wow. Sorry, but since the show just ended, I felt like it was ok to resurrect the thread.
Considering how it ended, I believe this to be one of the best little shows I have ever watched. It was masterful. The ending was brilliant, in that you could have guessed it from the first episode, but seeing it still blew your mind. They created a despicable, irredeemable asshole and made you still root for him to win. Wonderful.
Anyone else enjoy that as much as I?
Btw, the soundtrack was flawless also. And I am hoping they actually release Kenny Powers’ audiobook. And anyone who hasn’t seen it should check out the “Bat Fight” video that Will Ferell and Craig Robinson shot during filming for EB&D. Glorious.
Just started watching On Demand. It’s hilarious. For some reason it wasn’t on my radar screen until very recently…didn’t even know it had anything to do with baseball.
Yeah, the last few episodes were a little dark at times. Steve was my favorite…what else has he been in?
We only got to see April’s big cannons once didn’t we? Now I’m wondering if maybe it was a body double…seems like if she was good with it they’d have had her whip 'em out more often
I don’t even know why I loved the last season so much but I looked forward to it every Sunday, and laughed my ass off at least once each episode. I’m really going to miss Kenny and Stevie!
I hope the actors go on to do more cool stuff.
I think part of the draw for me was that my other Sunday shows were Dexter, Breaking Bad, Mad Men and Boardwalk Empire. All of them are pretty fucking dour and a little drab. Eastbound and Down was a big colorful explosion to look forward to!
All I got left now is Bob’s Burgers on Sundays for fun. 100% less swearing but still a rollicking good time!
