eBay won't load

Out of the blue, eBay will not load. Here’s what I am using.

Mac OS-X 10.12.6
Firefox 80.0 ( 64-bit )

Let me preface the rest of this by saying this: I’m posting this in G.Q. Please do not come sailing in with snarky remarks about Firefox. I am not shifting to Safari, or any other offerings.

The browser works just fine. I’ve done the usual- cleared cached and cookies, removed the link in my Toolbar, removed the Bookmark, etc. Did a hard reboot. Nothing.

What loads is the basic Tree for the site. No images at all. Now, every single other site I visit including this one loads all images / graphics/ etc with no lag or issues. This includes sites that constantly update images and videos such as YouTube, Facebook, etc. Zero issues.

Only eBay.
Any ideas on why this might be happening with this one site? This issue did seem to coincide with an update to Firefox, but I cannot go backwards on the update ( and it seems kind of amazing that in providing an update, any browser would strip the ability of a site to load… )

First thing I’d suggest is that you try accessing the site while on your phone (or tablet or any other device on your home network) and see if that works. If it works fine from there, it’s almost (but not 100%) related to your device, as opposed to your home network or ebay itself or anything in between.

If it doesn’t load from another device, try turning off wifi, you’re on the cellular network, and check it that way.

Also, if you have a pi-hole or any ad blockers shut them off and try it again.

One last thing, you if they’re doing some maintenance or there’s a problem with whatever server you’re connecting to, that could be the problem as well.

I would never harsh on your browser choice. but I will recommend trying Safari (or any other browser you already have on your computer) and seeing if it can load eBay, just to see if the problem is in Firefox or your computer’s connection.

@Joey_P’s advice is good, too, but I’d make that step 2 after trying a different browser. Oh, and step 0 is not just restarting your computer, but also your router. Make sure you’ve done that, too.

If you can get to eBay using Safari, I suggest making checking through your addons. An update could have broken one of them.

If you have no addons, or only a few and the above doesn’t work, you can also try Refreshing Firefox. It will keep all your other settings (though it will log you out of any website, so make sure you have your passwords saved.) Then follow the directions here.

If it doesn’t work in Safari, but it does work on another device (per @Joey_P), then my next step would be to grab Malwarebytes and do a malware scan. Yes, Macs can have malware, too. It would be unusual for the malware to be intentionally blocking eBay, but it could be a mistake. (And, of course, only download it from the site I linked. That’s how my dad got malware on the church’s Mac one time.)

Anything more than that would require more specific information and likely more knowledge of Macs than I currently possess.

Good thoughts all. I can log in on my Android phone using my home WiFi as well as my iPad on the WiFi.

Will poke at ad-blockers.

I’d be stunned if it was my device. I’ve logged into eBay every few days for the last 5 years on this Mac Mini with never an issue. Wondering about the recent Firefox upgrade.

I just realized I didn’t explicitly say that Refreshing Firefox will remove your addons. That’s why I said “if you have only a few.” You can always just reinstall them.

If you do have a lot of addons, I’d instead recommend creating a new Profile. Only if that works would I consider Refreshing, due to the hassle of installing all the addons again.

Refresh Firefox DID seem to do the trick !!
I’ve got very few add-ons. Firefox automatically wrote all passwords and saved data to the Wizard.

Who kindly just re-installed all of it.
