Eggnog

Exactly - it seems to me now that loaded eggnog has the same consistency and taste that “virgin” eggnog used to have when I was a kid. Can’t drink it without the booze now.

Of course, orange juice now seems a little funny without vodka in it, so I might just be talking from the bottom of a bottle.

I have a great recipe for home made eggnog that I love, but I find most store brands to be over sweet. I did find one local brand that is almost perfect if you cut it with a bit of whole milk and whiskey (or rum, or brandy, whatever your taste).

I like Bourbon in my eggnog personally. I have a couple of Bourbons that I keep on hand because they play well with others, and I will generally use that in my nog.

I can’t drink tomato juice unless it’s a Bloody Mary. Happy Holidays!

I prefer Silk Nog with rum. Delicious!

I was afraid to introduce the concept of soy nog, but I will back you up. I was pleasantly surprised when I tried it and it doesn’t have a bazillion calories (maybe 90 cal/8 oz?).

I know that many people on the board detest all things Starbucks. But eggnog chai lattes in holiday cups are one of the happy little things about Christmastime.

Southern Comfort makes their own brand of eggnog and it’s really good–much better, IMO, than the other name brands you typically find in the grocery store. It doesn’t come “pre-loaded” of course–you have to add your own booze–but it tastes great on its own. They make two or three different varieties (regular, vanilla spice, and I think one more)

Eggnog with a big slug o’ rum and a dusting o’ nutmeg on top? Come to Papa…

Word. Freaking awesome stuff there. A friend of mine who used to work as a Barista at starbucks introduced me to them a few years back, and now I look forward to Cheggnog time every year.

My grandmother makes delicious home-made eggnog, with eggs taken from an actual Nog.

Avoid Hood eggnog, they have several flavors like gingerbread, sugar cookie, a couple more. They aren’t very good, IMO, very fake tasting, better put to use in cooking and baking. I’ve always thinned out eggnog with my usual skim milk. Even better, pouring some in the morning coffee instead of milk or creamer.

I adore eggnog, and would go out to get some except I am snowed in while the fucking snow keeps shitting down non-stop for over 100 hours now. I would really give my left tit for some eggnog tonight.

One time I drank a whole quart of eggnog in one day. a little here, a little there, a little more with some rum, and a little more with some brandy. Yummy! Unfortunately, a whole quart set off an unfortunate lactose-intolerant-overload event the next day…

I love it.

For exactly one glass a year. After I’ve had that glass, as much as I enjoyed it, I don’t want another glass for another year.

It isn’t the holiday association so far as I can tell. Most years I have my one glass standing alone in the kitchen on a random early December day.

He has eggs?!

Sadly I don’t have the recipe on me or I would give it. I would not be surprised if there were a little more to it that what I listed. Skammer won’t like it because you fold the egg whites in.

The booze isn’t actually necessary. I can’t drink, but I still enjoy a good non-alcoholic eggnog.

As long as that “solo act” is the act of me pouring it down the drain, I concur! :stuck_out_tongue:

I like nog by itself, but only a small amount because it’s so thick…also, since I became lactose intolerant as an adult, I have to “plan ahead” to drink it (meaning making sure to take lactase supplements.) I didn’t realize that Silk made a soy nog…I’ll have to look for it.

If I am going to put booze in it, I use whiskey, sometimes rum. As you can tell from my first statement, I despise bourbon, but like Canadian whiskeys…which is odd, because isn’t bourbon a form of whiskey?

Bourbon is a very specific type of whiskey; it’s got a very strong flavor. Canadian whiskey OTOH is usually blended and typically the mildest-tasting of all whiskeys.

Mixing half eggnog with half chilled strong coffee produces a delicious drink. Only half a million calories!

I use storebought eggnog. I’m generally in favor of adding booze–but it’s really not needed for this beverage.

I detest homemade egg nog. I very much dislike store bought regular egg nog. I can deal with gingerbread and pumpkin egg nog.
It is decent as a milk replacement in coffee though.

Ambrosia of the Gods. I curse the fact that it’s only available for 2 months of the year.
