Golden yellow and delicious.
The most delicious way to feel bloated and sick.
I love the stuff, but it isn’t worth the calorie hit.
Mmm… Eggnog with rum.
I’d never had it until this year but I figured I’d make some for my Thanksgiving dinner. I followed the raw recipe in the Joy of Cooking and used Myers and Applejack for the booze. The egg white foam wasn’t great but once that was gone it was fantastic and I can’t wait until i get to make some more at Christmas.
Bourbon’s better.
Mmmm. Unfortunately I can’t get Hood Golden Eggnog here, but we do have Purity.
Nog and bourbon.
My in laws make egg nog with eggs, cream, milk, rum and bourbon that is very good. It is not at all like the yellow stuff you get in the stores this time of year.
I can get eggnog made by a local dairy in our grocery store. Love it. I use it in my coffee in the morning. Mmmmmm.
Egg nog is one of those things I think most people find disgusting because they’ve only ever had the gummy, overly sweet stuff that comes in a carton at the grocery store. I find that when you make it from scratch using real eggs, cream, spices and rum, a lot of people will be pleasantly surprised by it.
Key Food’s house brand with Southern Comfort = amazing.
I swear when I was a kid in Rhode Island in the 80s you could buy it year round!
No sugar? No vanilla?
I have to respectfully disagree. Bourbon should only be a solo act.
Even as someone with a sweet tooth, Eggnog is something that I only need to sip one tiny sip, every other year, tops.
It is the only food/drink that actually tastes like the zillion calories it is.
This is mainly for the pre-prepared stuff you can buy at the dairy counter this time of year.
I made the homemade, from scratch, recipe one year from Joy Of Cooking.
Tasted great, but it was about 2 dozen RAW eggs in the recipe and it kind of freaked me out to be drinking it.
Another vote for Southern Comfort.
Eggnog always seems too thick to me. Once it is thinned down with some 151 rum, I can handle it though.
When I was a child eggnog was about my favorite thing in the world. Once a year, our family would buy the stuff. If we behaved during the day, my mom would pour my brother and me big glasses of the stuff for dinner, and my brother and I would squabble about which glass had a little bit more until they were exactly even.
Then I hit puberty, and ever since then, the stuff tastes nasty.
I had a great egg nog recipe about two years ago and then lost it .
I remember trying Alton Brown’s recipe and not liking it at all. Any recipe that has you beat the eggwhites into a froth and then fold them into the nog just doesn’t deliver the right texture; egg nog should be creamy, not frothy.
I like using it as coffee creamer, but I can’t drink it on its own.
