I didn’t express an opinion. I suggested the thread be moved to a more appropriate board.
Threads in the Pit are fair game and I was mindful of expressing my opinion.
Yes, I do. I have the utmost sympathy for the victims in this case – the friends and family.
It was unlikely the young woman’s intent was for it to be a “Pit” thread.
Your next question: Then why couldn’t you just leave it be?
Simple answer. The more outpouring of support the more irritating it would become. Suicide is an issue the resonates strongly with many people. Myself included.
I’m afraid to say that, in his short time on this board, Eidolon909 has demonstrated little behaviour that makes himself look like anything but prejudiced, angry, insensitive, and insulting.
Eidolon, for reasons given in the other thread, suicide is also an issue which resonates strongly with me. When I read ñañi’s OP, I read it as the words of someone who was grieving and looking for answers. Your post over there could be taken as a veiled threat.
Now, if you would like to get into a full scale Pit Fest on the issue of suicide, I’ll be happy to take you on here, although I may not be on line much tomorrow because of the holiday. My stance is simple. While I’m about as far from a fan of suicide as you can get, I have a great deal of first-hand knowledge about what it’s like to be suicidal. Curiously enough, a good argument is less likely to make me so, and could be considered a reasonable remedy.
Eidolon909, just answer one question for me. Have you e-mailed a moderator or administrator to express your belief that the thread in question is in the wrong forum?
Tir, that’s not fair. A lot of very very sad threads have been in MPSIMS. It IS where a lot of similar stuff is put. The title of the forum is unfortunately flip, but the subject matter has dealt with everything from death of family members and pets to car accidents.
No. MPSIMS should be re-named to Miscellaneous. That what its about. If the topic doesn’t fit anywhere else (which it doesn’t) it goes there. Check it. Its full of grief and sympathy about topics that are not “mundane” or “pointless”.
You’re so eager to vilify, I find it rather lubricating.
Wile MPSIMS is usually where those threads go, the pit is by no means the wrong forum to speak about a friends suicide. She could have alot of anger. Just because she dosent curse or rant in the OP dosen’t make it any less of pit thread.
Regardless, it was insensitive in the highest to try to hijack it towards your ethical beliefs on suicide.
You know, one of the really cool abilities that adults have is the abilty to feel quite strong emotions and still refrain from sharing them when the result of sharing them is likely to be both non-productive and hurtful.
It’s certainly not against the rules to read a post, feel a great deal, and then hit the back button, slipping away like a theif in the night. if it brings you pleasure, you can even type out a response and then hit the back button.
Tir T., ya, there’s a known problem, in that there is no forum called: “Intensely important personal issues that I must share.”
To that end, Some go into MSIPMS and some go into the PIT depending on the anger content. For instance, there’s currently a post by a moderator, no less, in MSIPMS, called “Goodbye Spot (sad),” which isn’t mundane or pointless.
