Election crow and eat crow thread

The last few weeks have been increasingly frantic on this sub-forum, and I think things have gotten pretty heated. I propose this thread as a place to crow about your successful predictions (“I knew left-handed Eskimos were in the bag for Romney!”) and eat crow about your unsuccessful ones.

I’d love to keep this all in good fun, have a chance to apologize for our previous transgressions here. Let’s keep it positive and fun, like an elections oriented MPSIMS thread (not that I spend much time there).

Anyway, I’ve been pretty quiet on this forum (I’m not that active anyway, I suppose), so I’ll lay out my prediction here:

I think Obama will outperform and pick up Florida, along with Ohio, etc. He won’t get North Carolina.

I will check in later to crow or eat crow as necessary. I have no power and not such great access to the internet, so I won’t check in on this thread too often.

Have a great election day! I’ve already voted and took my son into the booth with me.

I can crow about finding just one more Obama voter yesterday (I’m a registrar and volunteered for OFA).

I had been nagging a girl at work, a fairly new citizen to the US, to vote and asked her yesterday if she early voted. She said no, and now she would not be able to vote since she had to work today. I told her that not only was she allowed time off to vote, but that our employer had to pay her for her time. She got pretty happy about that.

So, she went to ask the boss if she could come in late so she could vote, and our boss told her no.

When she told me this, she looked so sad!

I let her now that it was illegal to not allow her time off to vote and the company would pay a $500.00 fine it they didn’t allow her to come in late or take time off during the day. She said she was worried she would get in trouble if she asked again, and I let her know it was also illegal to retaliate against her for asking for time to vote. She wasn’t sure if she should believe me, so we looked it up on-line. She printed out the information and screwed up the courage to go to our boss again. By this time, our boss had heard from the higher ups about the various laws and was coming back to let the girl know that she would be allowed come in late after all.

The girl was so happy that she hunted me down to give me a big hug. She was very nearly dancing with happiness!

I know there’s a Nate Silver adulation/bashing thread already, but I put a lot of stock in his forecast. He’s got Obama at 91.6%. Sam Wang, perhaps even more geeky has Obama’s reelection odds at 99.2%.

I’m about ready to start talking shit. I am most excited about the following douchebags having to eat crow:

  • Newt Gingrich
  • Rush Limbaugh
  • The entire Fox News team (as soon as the election is called, I’m heading there to watch their sweet, delicious tears)

I am actually quite interested in what Romney does next. I think he is classically, tragically obsessed with winning, and pretty much prostituted himself ideologically to get there… only he will fall short. Sure, he has his billions to keep him company, but he will no doubt go down as one of the weakest, most ineffectual GOP candidates ever. How long will it take for the talking heads to take him down and label him as such? Or will they go the GWB route, Stalinist revisionism, and simply airbrush him out of history?

Can’t wait to find out.

Oh, and I’m pretty sure OMGABC is going to have some interesting responses tonight/tomorrow.

Either Nate Silver is completely wrong, or the conservative punditry, including dedicated amateurs like OMG, has lost its fucking mind.

No, he won’t. He and adaher and the other conservatives confidently predicting victory will completely vanish from the boards until such time as they judge the Elections brouhaha has mostly passed from the short memory of the board, whereupon they’ll come back and start in with their old song and dance.

Don’t forget Micheal Medved. He wrote an entire book titled:

The Odds Against Obama: Why History and Logic Make the President a Likely Loser

And, as recently as yesterday, was talking shit about the problem of the Democrat’s “enthusiasm gap.”

I want to hear Karl Rove explain that if he had only had $947 million more dollars, he could have won this for Romney. And if it weren’t for that damned storm, Sandy, Obama would have lost anyway.

Here in Nevada, I would love to get a flash mob together wearing Obama t-shirts and do a happy conga line dance through the Venetian Hotel Casino - owned by right wing, deep pocket, Republican casino mogul donor Sheldon Adelson.

As far as Republican posters here on the SDMB - I will cut some slack. Oh how well I still remember those dark years of Bush…and if they feel even 47% as bad as I felt, I will happily let them go off and lick their wounds alone, without me rubbing anything in their face.

Oh they won’t be eating any crow. I can already hear Rush talking about how the Black Panthers scared away all the nice respectable (white) voters. Fox will double down on the crazy.

My prediction is he’ll blame everything on the hurricane. I actually think that speeches are currently being written with this as the major theme.

When this is over, I’d very much like to salute the poster who blithely predicted 400 electoral votes for Romney, but sadly that person is no longer with us.

Speaking of relevant political groups like the Black Panthers - I had to laugh out loud today when I heard Mitt step before an audience that cheered loudly, and he said something like, “Wow, for me? I thought the Beatles had just appeared on stage!”

Yeah, Mitt - that hip new group The Beatles, all two of them, performing live for you.

What are they up to by now? 2^37 or so?

Foxnews front page is already currently devoted to the Black Panthers and other pretend outrages regarding election stealing.

But Klaatu, who started that thread with a prediction of 300+, is still around.

Thanks for putting it so well. I’ll have to remember that. It’s really what happened.

People are talking about Romney possibly losing the electoral vote while winning the popular vote, but I have my serious doubts about that. I think a lot of people who don’t have land-line phones now don’t get called for polling, and that–moreover–such people were able to smell Romney’s craven, ideological whoring to get the presidency at any cost, simply because of how he looked and behaved on TV. It wasn’t something that required a lot of deep policy awareness–it was more visceral.

The real question is, how long will this thread stay under “Elections” before it gets moved to the Pit?

Some wingnut recently produced a map predicting a 359-179 EV victory for Romney, reversing the 2008 count.

Even the quickest look at the map was enough to reveal its improbability. To get to 359, per the map, Romney would have to win all of the generally acknowledged swing states, plus every Midwestern state except Illinois, plus Pennsylvania, Oregon, and New Mexico.

Serious wishful thinking.

I’m personally hoping that Romney’s share of the popular vote is in the 47% range. I want that number to follow him around for the rest of his life.

I think that as soon as we have a concession speech, we are headed to the Pit.

I’ve been telling people for years-- the crows are going to take over sooner or later. They’re everywhere now!

Yeah, yeah, we know, you can stop raven about it!

Maybe as soon as a major networks caws it.
