Ah, well, I’ll agree that’s a good reason to get a sticker!
I just couldn’t help but think about what it really meant that the polling place was already out of “I Voted” stickers: Huge voter turnout. That seems like something far more important to celebrate to me!
I was just looking at some exit polling done by CNN and the results are surprising and rather disturbing. Only one-third of voters polled say the economy is in “good or excellent” shape. Meanwhile three-quarters had “negative views of the way things are going right now in the US”. Not sure what to make of that, but that sort of thing generally doesn’t bode well for the incumbent.
On the other hand, the incumbent isn’t really running, but kind of is…?
I don’t know how useful it is to try to make predictions based on past results when we’re in such weird territory now.
ETA: The AP seems to be sort of calling Kentucky and Indiana for Trump, based on my Google map (they are light red). Don’t think that should be a shocker to anyone.
No doubt. Possible silver lining is that Abortion ranked higher than Immigration on the top issues list… can’t be a bad sign for Democrats.
So far with very early returns in Indiana the counties at 50%+ returned are about 2-5% lower for Trump than 2020. But that could be a mail vs. in-person thing - counties are sometimes too large to really analyze.
I believe it would be important news if it were really news (i.e. the news of people dissatisfied with the economy and how america is going). That’s about the percentage I would have expected if I had had to guess. it might already be baked into the polls. And while a perceived bad economy can never help an incumbent, thinking the country has gone in the wrong direction could just as easily mean that they are tired of Trumpism.
All right then, time to go to sleep. It is half past midnight here and I have to get up to work (!) at 06:15. Let’s see if something is clearer by then. Let’s hope so. Please do the right thing!!!
Good luck!
I like it. I have always voted straight party, and unless there is a corrupt democrat running, I always will. The republican party has never represented me or my interests. If a dem is corrupt, I probably wouldn’t vote for that seat.
I’ve been fine all day. Went canvassing again with my teenage daughter, took a little nap this afternoon, had tacos for dinner… but now I feel my stomach muscles clenching. I sure hope those tacos stay down.
I never abstain from voting on any race or topic, but if there’s a race where the Democrat is unacceptable, I cast a write-in vote for either Taylor Swift or Sam Miller (a local standup comedian) in protest.
That really is encouraging. A small caveat is that Trump voters also say they worry about democracy, no doubt due to Trump’s incessant yammering about elections being stolen from him, but it’s much lower down on their priority list. Harris supporters are genuinely worried about a potential Trump dictatorship and reign of terror.
