It’s sad because I still think the vast majority of Trump voters are just “X used to cost N, now it costs 1.2N!” where if they were better informed they’d know that how the administration handled the worldwide supply shock should actually be in the positive column, and meanwhile a GOP admin is likely to make their lives worse in multiple ways.
I’m going to do my best to tune out the next 4 years of shitshow.
There will be plenty of time to discuss what Trump will or won’t accomplish, but the ones you mention are easy:
He will end the Ukraine/Russia war by making Ukraine give up a significant chunk of territory, and then the Zelensky government will fall and be replaced by a Putin stooge government. Most Americans will not care.
He will “end” the Israel conflict because Bibi will stop the bombing once there is no political advantage to be gained. Hezbollah will stop because their supporters in Russia got what they wanted (Trump back in the WH).
As for health care, he will do the same thing he always does - nothing. The GOP has given up Health Care as a policy position entirely, because they know it’s a loser for them so they just don’t talk about it.
The bigger issue will be if/when there is an economic correction. Biden’s policies have done a great job of nailing the soft landing, but there is always the chance of significant economic shocks. But Trump has no issue running up deficits to keep the economy humming, so I assume he will just pass huge tax cuts without paying for them and let the interest be the next Democratic administrations problems.
All right, good luck with that. America is still the biggest stick the West has to swing in terms of economics and military power. I don’t think you’re going to like an America First swing and the subsequent great power realignment.
Yeah, we’re ficked. The one possible silver lining is that seeing what Trump actually does might derail the imminent Conservative win in our next election.
Yes. Just make it clear to Ukraine that they are on their own and they better start negotiating now before they run out of ammo. The executive has pretty much total control over how and when weapons get delivered (remember the “perfect phone call” that led to the first impeachment?).
Looks like most of Philly dropped and there just isn’t enough vote left for Harris. NYT still only says Trump has a 75% chance of winning it, but I think it’s higher than that unless there is a much larger tranche of outstanding votes than NYT estimates.
Why would Putin start a war? He got what he wanted. He can slowly absorb other nations around him, but without the US backstop NATO won’t dare try to stop him if he messes with Moldova or whatever.
Yes, that is a shame. But I highly doubt many US voters will lose much sleep over it.
FUCK ME the vote in WA to repeal our climate cap-and-trade act has passed.
That’s gonna cost us billions of dollars for infrastructure and public transit, all because of one billionaire who doesn’t want to pay his taxes. Our bus service is gonna get cut and it’s going to cost me more to get home from work at night.
Huh? They’re going to say “fuck you, we won”. Apparently that’s all they care about, is winning. Why else would any woman in this country vote against her own, or her sister’s, or her daughter’s, or her girl-friend’s right to choose how to govern her own body.
Trump has pledged to deport millions of wokers, and to impose significant tariffs on almost all imports. Doing either of those will tank the economy in short order. I expect he will do both.
