Election Day Omnibus thread

To my earlier point about abortion, Amendment 3 passed in Missouri. It prohibits the state from passing any law restriction abortion before viability, or restricting abortions in cases where the health of the mother is at risk.

And Trump carried the state by 15%.

Voters are very happy to vote for Republicans as long as they can also vote to keep abortion legal.

Looking at the live map on Yahoo News, they have the current EV total for Harris as 205. By my count that means she has to win WI, MI, PA, GA and NV (or AZ) to put her total over 270. But she has to win them all.

So far, nothing has flipped from 2020.

It’s the question of what do you expect America to do? There’s an argument that America and Europe didn’t give enough support to Ukraine, but how do you do so when the other party has a large arsenal of nuclear weapons? If Russia manages to take more of Ukraine than what they currently have that’s a damn shame. But other than supplying Ukraine with ordnance, I don’t know what can really be done.

Just like J6 did.

I’m glad I’m

If she loses PA she does need all the rest. Otherwise she can lose two of them. However, at this point is is significantly less than a 50 50 chance since she is behind in them all except unreported Nevada.

Harris wins HI.

I know 3 of my co-workers and two of my students voted for Trump. Tomorrow’s going to suck if he wins.

That is one promise he cannot keep. It’s just not physically possible.

As I’ve been saying the country was over in 2016 when he first got elected

Both my mom and dad did. Me and my sister voted Harris though. But still.

I sort of expect he will do neither. He might put up a few tariffs, but as soon as they have any economic impact he’ll back down.

He will certainly try to lock up border crossers, and he might try to sign some executive orders requiring asylum seekers to return to wherever they apply from. Both of which suck, don’t get me wrong. But I don’t think he will actually try to do mass deportations - it’s just too logistically difficult, and he doesn’t like doing hard things.

That’s the American reality in late 2024.

That requires him to be smart enough to realize that. Even trying to do it will fuck everything up.

Harris wins VA.

My workplace is a hotbed of Trumpers (to the extent that management had no problems at all when some employees started putting Trump stickers on company toolboxes and other property)… I’m expecting problems, but I’ve got too much going on to call in sick. Remote work isn’t an option, unfortunately (unless we have a plague, which is actually likely now).

Back down? Like, cancel the tariffs after they’ve been implemented? The country who got the tariffs just raise the price anyway.

He’s going to be focused on keeping himself out of jail and making sure his Truth Social and idiotic crypto makes him money. He’ll be golfing when he isn’t working on those endeavors.

Ah, what? There is no chance he goes to jail now.

Maybe but more likely he will never even propose them. There are some he can do by executive order, but once the big corporations squeal he won’t do it.

See, he doesn’t really care about these things. He just says what sounds good to him and what his supporters applaud for. If his advisors tell him tariffs are unpopular then he’ll stop talking about them.

He cares about a very small number of thing: his own ego, making and keeping money, and (now) staying out of jail (although that’s obviously not a problem for him anymore).
