Election Day Omnibus thread

I agree. This is the United States right now. Trump won because he got the votes. Period.

If Harris should be doing anything right now, it’s preparing to make a choice between fleeing the country in advance of Trump’s forces arresting her, or accepting the persecution with head held symbolically high.

I choose all of this. But look after yourself first, of course.

If you have children, it’s a whole different ball game. You can’t pretend the future doesn’t matter, like I can, being old and alone. Feel your way along. Don’t decide today, or even this week.

I cant embedded it but I saw a photo of
Voting demographics according to one place I found…VERY intresting the number of white women who voted for Trump INCREASED (over 60%)…not sure how to explain that one (again besides internal mysonginy and racism)

Thank you, ThelmaLou and Love_Rhombus…your words brought me to tears, for the first time this episode.

Good tears. Tears that are starting to unclench my inner knot.

If and when that happens, I don’t see how life isn’t completely over for those who don’t agree with him, honestly. In which case, I’d be curious to know your thoughts on my other thread.

I’m glad you specified “pretend” here…

Sorry to butt in, but did Harris…lose the popular vote?

Probably, yes.

Although it looks like perhaps the worst wipeouts were avoided in the Senate? Maybe Baldwin and Slotkin will just barely win.

I think the only saving grace for the many, many people on trump’s enemies list is that, while his vengeful nature is awfully strong, it’s likely still superseded by his colossal laziness and complete lack of attention span. I predict, especially in his declining years, that now he’s back in the office he will once again sink into a routine of big blocks of ‘executive time’ watching Fox News, or golfing.

Of course, he will have many minions busily working on tearing down government institutions, ruining the lives of immigrants, and such, but I think (perhaps wishful thinking?) that his revenge talk is mostly BS.

We will see. He certainly didn’t follow through on “lock her up” with Hillary.

I think he will try to kowtow the press, but for now at least even this SCOTUS has been pretty damn firm on free speech rights. He may go after Hunter or something, but that’s nothing a full pardon can’t fix.

The big questions will be just how far the 52 or so Senators are willing to go in his more aggressive ideas. My hunch is not very - they like to win elections. But I could be wrong and this will be the time they make the big push to scale back voting rights extremely in order to maintain power.

Yeah - 1/2 of the population with control of all 3 branches and powerful institutions will not be slowed by TFG’s laziness. He won’t care enough to slow their roll. We’ll see if any “moderates” on the right have ANY shame or respect for ANY vestiges of what American purportedly valued. (I fear I know the answer.)

I saw that, but I don’t feel like I have anything to contribute, considering that my situation as an overseas resident is vastly different from the reality of stateside Americans and my personal to-do list (finish moving remaining investments out of the U.S., accelerate process of securing alternative citizenship) is far from helpful advice for anyone but me.

A relevant tweet from Jason Hickel.

From the Dept. of Silver Linings:

While my state of Kentucky is heavily red (except for the governor) and was the first to be declared by ABC News online last night as having gone for Trump, voters delivered a resounding defeat to the “school choice” movement.

My county voted yes on permitting the sale of medical marijuana, by one of the largest margins in the state (each county got to decide whether to allow sales within its borders).

There’s your problem. Our side said that about 2008, where it certainly was a hyperbolic exaggeration. Here we are, in 2024, with that situation being much closer to reality - and no one listens to us anymore…

With the disclaimer that not everything is counted yet, she got smoked in the popular vote. Yahoo News tells me that as of the time of this writing, Harris has ~66 million votes to Trump’s ~71 million.

One good bit of news. Jeff Jackson won the NC Attorney General race. It’s a hard road but I’m still hoping he will be the future of the Democratic Party. After being gerrymandered out of Congress it’s good he followed it up with a win. At least that keeps his political life alive.

I did see that. What I mean is: Has anyone projected out the vote totals? I am guessing she can not make up the difference?

Doubtful. He knows this is his last term, and will probably double-down. I’m not even sure if our system of checks-and-balances can prevent the damage he wants to inflict.

Pretty much. Trump won and won big. No way to sugar coat it. I am completely disgusted.
