I think I’ll be okay, then. I did make one mistake where I tried to jump without moving away from a star after refueling, but my most damaged system is at 94%.
My second account (Commander Cody Eyrmon) is coming along nicely. Having the game installed on both my desktop and Surface Pro enabled both of my commanders to wing up for trading; parked Commander Cody in the largest station in his home system and Commander Holdstock did all the work in his Type-10. Main made a few million in profits and alt got enough in trade dividends for a Hauler.
Will soon sell the Hauler for a Cobra MkIII.
I finally made it back home. It was not worth it for just 20M. Hopefully I’ll get a lot of exploration rank, though.
First time I took on a Famous Explorer, we returned during an exploration Community Goal. So far, that’s the only time I cracked the top 10% in any CG.
Well, dang. I’m trying to unlock Marco Qwent, for which I need a Sirius system permit. I’m in Procyon, and as I’m trading in exploration data for rep with Sirius Corp, I see a mission to get the permit; I need to be allied with them. By the time I trade in enough exploration data to be allied, the mission is gone. Oh, well.
It’ll be back and you’ll be ready when it is.
Commander Cody now has a Diamondback Explorer and already has Farseer at level 4, mainly due to selling exploration data to & from Maia. Hoping the next batch of data is enough for 5. Will likely wait until 3.0 goes live with its new engineering procedures before having her work on the FSD.
Just started playing this a few weeks ago, extremely addicted. Still having a hard time finding barnacles and those meta alloys for Farseer… I just bought a Viper for speed (All B rated) and SRV and have been having fun bouncing around planets, but have yet to find them, just the bronzite stuff. Where can I find these elusive things? Any particular systems? Any help or tips is appreciated!
Go to the market at Darnielle’s Progress in Maia. ![]()
Thank you!!! Finally can get some needed upgrades, I already have maxed my limit of materials from scavenging pirates I eliminate and have a ton of exploration data to sell (took me forever to get an Advanced Discovery Scanner) as well. I hope it’s worth the 30 some odd jumps each way. Lol
You know, I didn’t like the game at first (Mainly because I found Hutton Orbital early one, I’m patient but I have limits), but I always keep at things and I am glad I did, its great!! A game that actually has a challenge and doesn’t try to hold my hand, is a welcomed change. And it doesn’t turn me into a raving psychopath like playing Dark Souls.
I just got this game. Can anyone recommend some good getting started tips or tutorials?
Sure thing.
Hutton is a real outlier, no other port is so far from the jump-in point. There are systems in Eagle Nebula that are closer together than the distance from Alpha Centauri to Hutton. The trick to Hutton was taking multiple missions at the same time, each one worth over a million credits, but that may have changed with the nerf to long-distance bonuses.
Do the pre-game tutorials, then the in-game mission tutorials. Use a trading guide like EDDB to fill up your cargo racks. EDDB and Inara are updated real-time via an app that runs concurrently with the game. Every time a commander using the app docks, it updates the database.
I appreciate these tips! Newman Hub is another really sour trip (Kappa Reticuli? Baedule?). I forget what system that was in, not as bad as Hutton but yeah. I would do those long hauls but I’m at the point where my most valuable missions are worth about 500kC. Once it doubles I won’t have much of an issue, just lacking an incentive at this point. I’ve been focusing mainly on combat as I have a pavlovian complex, I need some gratification, trading takes too long for me because of the traveling between some systems, I just don’t have the time to invest. I do exploration and mining in between combat though. I could only wish for some kind of penalty in trade for faster travel.
I second the notion of doing the training, especially the combat ones. Makes things much easier once you master that. Make getting a better ship and some extra credits to rebuy it if you destroy it, some of your priorities. Bounty hunting makes a lot of money once you get decent at combat.
Be sure to hold your exploration data until you can sell it to Farseer. Great way to improve your status with her, should be able to get at least Grade 3 without having her build anything.
3.0 will definitely change materials acquisition. I know there’s going to be some sort of materials exchange but I didn’t take a look at one in the beta so I don’t know how it’ll work.
The next updateBeyond: Chapter 1 launches on Tuesday 27th Feb.
I just got this too.
I was trying the first tutorial and could not figure out how to change to the Contacts tab on my display. I swear I pushed every button on my keyboard but somehow missed it.
I quit the game in frustration and played Warhammer II instead.
I have the “change tabs” function mapped to the shoulder buttons on my controller. ![]()
