Elliptical Grease

I have a Proform Endurance 720E elliptical. I bought it used from Play It Again Sports many years ago, and am wanting to dust it off and use it again. First I want to clean it and grease it to make sure it works properly before I make it do some heavy lifting.

I found the manual but it isn’t clear to me what grease I can use. I emailed ProForm and they aren’t replying.

I don’t know if I need to use PTFE (which is teflon?) or can use Silicone or Lithium? Can it be spray or does it have to be from a tube?

These are the things I came up with:
https://www.wd40.com/products/dry-lube/ (has PTFE)
https://blasterproducts.com/product/dry-lube/ (used to have PTFE but now doesn’t)
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Super-Lube-3-oz-Tube-Synthetic-Grease-with-Syncolon-PTFE-21030/202932687 (this is a tube, not a spray, with PTFE)

If anyone has any insight, I’d appreciate it.

Those dry lube products are great, but probably not what you’re looking for. They dry to a white coating with the teflon left behind. They’re really not grease, at least not in the sense that whatever is going over them is going to pick it up and move it around. They work better in tight spots like the pivot of a wrench or a door hinge.

I imagine the super lube would work fine.
If you need something thicker, Molykote 111 would probably work well. If it needs to be thinner, something like a chain lube (which are designed not to get flung from moving parts) would probably do the job. (To clarify, not chainsaw blade oil, actual chain and cable lube, like this.)

Honestly, you could probably use just about any grease you can easily find at Home Depot or Autozone. Since

The first two are dry lubes. Since the manufacturer specifies grease, I would use the Home Depot(or something similar).
I would imagine the tube would be less messy than a spray.

Agreed. Spray grease is nice, but not something I’d want to use in my house, especially if it might get on the pedals. A tube of it will be easy to lay a bead down on the tracks and let the wheels move it around.

Thank you both! I will get a tube of Super Lube.
