I’m not a fan of the massive pile-on. There’s a disproportionate number of people here who seem to live for them though. They rarely say anything of any importance or worth. Their main purpose here is simply to take part in a pile-on, to egg it on, so they can get some cheap shots in safely.

Anyway, I came into the thread and mentioned that you’d turned me onto Verhoven and posted my opinion on the elements he uses in his film.
Once an actual discussion broke out the assholes went away and the pile on stopped.
Though I didn’t think you deserved it there, I didn’t do it for you. I hate the pile-ons. I hate it when it happens to bricker liberal Shodan you or anybody else. I hate it even when it is “deserved.” Cause really that’s just an excuse.

Sorry, Scylla, I was glad to see you finally allowed yourself to see through the bullshit surrounding Verhoeven and his work to appreciate him on his own merit, but I can’t make myself feel I owe you anything for that. I didn’t create the bullshit you had to find your way through. To the extent that I was any kind of guide in getting you through it, well then I’d have to say *you *owe me.

You know how i found your indiscretion? It was really quite easy, and took virtually no time. I searched your username, and put trihs (from Der Trihs) in the search field. I figured , if you had engaged in unprovoked attacks before, that Der Trihs would be a likely candidate for your wrath. As it happened, that search took me to the thread in question, although, as it turns out, it wasn’t Der Trihs who you pre-emptively insulted, but three other posters.
The whole search took about 2 minutes, and i only undertook it in the first place because you never struck me as the sort of person who would refrain from insulting someone just because they happened to be absent.

If you’re interested, i actually have sympathy for your post in the other thread, and i think it was unnecessary for you to apologize for it here. I don’t think there is anything especially heinous about bringing up third parties in threads where they aren’t participating. I’ve done it on occasions, both in a positive and a negative way. I have no problem with your pre-emptive calling-out of those three guys.
