Indeed. The 74/75 Warrior’s NBA Championship is one of sport’s biggest upsets, but rarely gets any notice. I survived the Showtime years by rooting for the Lakers every time that they played the Celtics.
Of course, being a Warrior fan isn’t always a bleak experience. I found an official Warrior jersey for my son at a sports store once. It was marked down from $49.99 to $45.99.
Then it was marked down to $39.99.
Then $29.99.
Then $19.99.
Then $9.99.
I pulled the trigger at $5.99; it was like watching the world’s slowest eBay auction in reverse, as I peeled each price tag back.
I liked ST TMP too, and you’re absolutely right about that mellowing-out-alone factor. It’s not possible when you’re out having margaritas with friends.
I thought I’d won the thread for most embarassing confession by admitting I got shit on my eyeballs watching Growing up Gotti; you win though, by a mile. Shit on your face? Oh my.
I have songs from the Spice Girls, Mariah Carey and Madonna in my playlist and still enjoy listening to them, though I’ve always disliked the way they project themselves and I hate all their current public iterations.
I also know way more about celebrities than makes any sort of sense. And I hate the idea of modern media monopolizing celebrities. I also hate reality TV, but I made a shameful exception for Project Runway.
I have a weird thing about buying wedding magazines. I’m not a crazy biological clocker, I swear (I’m not even thinking about marriage till at least 10 years from now). I started because I wanted a lot of draping examples for dress design, and now I just read them. Even when the articles make me roll my eyes.
I liked the Craft too. Though I knew it was terribly done.
Why are the nighttime hallucinations embarrassing? I think that’s pretty cool.
Ive seen every episode of The OC thats been shown here - have even bought the first two seasons. Now that the OC is finishing Ive started to watch One Tree Hill and spent a couple nights last week watching the first 20 episodes on youtube and have just bought season 2 from amazon.
I also watch ANTM every week, as well as all the CSI’s.
With regard to music my current favourite band is Fall Out Boy - I cant get enough of their old album Take This To Your Grave.
And I know way too much about the lives of celebrities.
I watched every possible airing of CMT’s Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. Every episode, every time it came on and I was home.
I like Ricky Martin’s “She Bangs” and Sir Mixalots’ “Baby Got Back”.
I think Brad Pitt looks like a chimp.
I’d rather eat a bologna and American cheese sand on Wonder bread than just about anything else…except a fried hotdog on Wonder bread.
I want to climb into Dr. Phil’s lap and play with his moustache.
I’m not okay.
My brothers and I used to hurry home from secondary school in order to eat a packet of round wine biscuits smothered in margarine and 100s & 1000s… while watching Pokemon.
I don’t particularly like children, but I am fascinated by parenting books, and have read just about every book on the subject that my bookshop sells. Same for the parenting threads here - anything titled ‘toddler won’t eat his peas’ or ‘HELP! Our Daughter Won’t Do Her Homework’ is a surefire winner with me.
I can’t spell *forward *or *definitely *with out googling my mangled approximation and then copy-pasting the ‘did you mean’ word.
Agreed. I miss them. Falling in and out of sleep as a slow, gentle process was so nice, especially when I had hypnagogic hallucinations both ways. But it required living with my parents and having a curfew.
Actually, I do have the waking-up kind (they’re not technically called hypnagogic, but usually lumped in under the same umbrella) still, especially when the phone wakes me up. I’ve said truly surreal things to my managers when they’ve called to ask if I could come in to work a few hours earlier. The one that takes the cake though, IMO, happened on Monday morning: a manager called me at about 8 AM to see if I could come in at 9 to cover for the scheduled opener. I remember picking up the phone and staring at the caller ID for a few seconds in a daze, and suddenly realizing it was probably important and answering it. What I don’t remember (she told me about it later) is sitting there with the phone to my ear and saying nothing at all for about three minutes, and then hanging up and going back to sleep. (She figured out what was going on and called me right back, and that time I jolted into consciousness and actually talked to her.)
Right now I’m loving the Carpenters, Barry Manilow, Hall & Oates, Ronnie Milsap, Too Funky by George Michael and I’m Too Sexy by Right Said Fred on my iPod. Also have SexyBack.
Red Dawn is my alltime favorite movie and makes me bawl every time.
I, too, love Girls Next Door and Holly, and think that Kendra’s a real brat.
I would get up @ 4 in the morning to watch Buffy. For three full series’ worth. I TiVo’d it too. I cried my ass off as Spike was burning up.
I absolutely LOVE Dirt and Nip/Tuck. Naughty little secrets.
I competed in Accordion Festivals as a youngster and won trophies. Envy me!
I’m secretly in love with the boy I liked in 7th grade. I’m 40+, and happily married.
I cannot change the channel when “The Jerk” is playing.
Yeah, Haifa University doesn’t have a sports team - no Israeli school has one - but hyraxes are native to the Carmel ridgeline, so I suppose they’re as good a hypothetical mascot as any. Besides, while hyraxes are perhaps the least impressive species of wild animal on the planet, they’re actually the closest known relatives to elephants, which must count for something.
