embarrassing tv character crushes

Artemus Gordon! Yes indeedy! What a guy!

And, while I was young, (I stress young :)) I had a real thing for Newkirk on Hogan’s Heroes. It wasn’t Richard Dawson, I enjoyed Family Feud, but it wasn’t the same.

I have no idea what I was thinking.

You want embarassing? The only TV star I ever had a dream about was Marie Osmond. And it wasn’t even a dirty dream.

On Beverly Hillbillies I always liked the times when the models they used as generic beautiful women would concede instant defeat whenever Ellie Mae appeared in an evening gown. As they should have. But it was those sewn-on jeans that did me in!

I confess, at some point in my childhood I had a crush on damn near every one of Hogan’s Heroes. LOL! I used to have fantasies about helping them with their cockamaimie plans, and being huddled in the bushes with them while stuff blew up.

And, yes, I had crushes on not just Bo, but Luke Duke as well. And Albert from Little House on the Prairie. (I just knew I could save him from that horrible morphine addiction he picked up in the BIG CITY!)

I have a crush on about half the new cast members on ER this season–especially the guy with the bleach blonde hair who works behind the counter (Andrew?) and even Dr. Dave Malucci, whose entire character, as far I can guess, is to be an irresponsible ass.

When I was about ten, I had the hugest crush (and really, my only celebrity crush) on John Schneider: Bo Duke from the Dukes of Hazzard. And I’m not even attracted to blonds! But apparently at 10, I was.

I did really like the character that Cher (Alicia Silverstone) fell for in Clueless. Josh was absolutely adorable!

Mmmmmmm…let’s see:

Meredith Baxter-Birney (in Bridget Loves Bernie, not Family Ties)

Pam ‘Mindy’ Dawber

Patty Duke (60’s teen era)

Don West from Lost In Space

Jimmy from H.R. Pufnstuf (man, that accent totally did me in! sigh)

OK, this is my first post after much lurking, so I figured I’d start with an easy one.

I’ve got two crushes that others have mentioned and a new one. I was smitten with Andy Travis from WKRP in Cincinnati when I was a preteen, though I’m still not sure why; and Sam Beckett from Quantum Leap—yum! That episode where he was a bounty hunter and he had to take his shirt off so that woman could put liniment on his back…

Now for the really embarrassing part: I SO dig Stephen Hyde from That '70s Show. The dude with the sideburns and tinted sunglasses? His character is a good eight years younger than I am, yet infinitely cooler. Sigh… Don’t tell my husband.

So many, so many… I am somewhat of an afficianado of old TV, (especially westerns) so here goes:

Watched old reruns of “Wagon Train” when I was in high school. Fell madly in love with scout Flint McCullough (Robert Horton.)

Hannibal Heyes (Pete Duel) from “Alias Smith and Jones” - was heartsick over the actor’s suicide.

I vaguely remember flipping (literally - I’d do a flip where I was sitting on the couch) over Adam Cartright (Pernell Roberts) in Bonanza. I was 4. I think it was all the black outfits he wore. It amused my family a great deal!

Jim West (Robert Conrad) “Wild Wild West”. Oh, those tight little pants and short jacket. Sigh.

Ham Tyler (Michael Ironside) from “V - The Series”. I think it was the black outfits again. And he had sort of a dark, pragmatic thing going on with him. Can’t explain it.

Ah. Fraser (Paul Gross) from “Due South”. What a sweetie. and those red Mountie outfits are so fetching! I liked his partner, Ray (David Marciano) as well. Who says receding hairlines and slightly receding chins can’t be adorable? They are on him.

David Addison (Bruce Willis) on “Moonlighting”. Can’t explain this one either. I am sure if I knew someone as irritating as David in real life, I’d run screaming. But David won my heart on that show. I sure as hell am no fan of Willis (but I have softened a bit towards him since catching the re-runs of “Moonlighting” on Bravo lately.)

Niles Crane (David Hyde-Pierce) on “Frasier”. So hilarious, so anal-retentive and picky!

Dr. Frank Morgan (Will Patton) on “VR.5”. He was the guy that got killed off after a few episodes, and was replaced by Anthony Head. I was heartsick when they killed off Patton’s character! But Oliver (Head’s character) was fabulous as well.

Well, long enough list for ya?

Here they are as I think of them.
[ul]
[li]Dot Matrix, Mouse, and AndrAIa from ReBoot[/li][li]Agent L from Men In Black: the Series[/li][li]Seven of Nine from Star Trek: Voyager (the only good thing about that show, I might add)[/li][li]Faith from Buffy the Vampire Slayer[/li][li]Tootie from The Facts of Life. I was young… :o[/li][li]Sasha from Kindred: the Embraced. I didn’t actually watch the show; I saw it at a convention.[/li][li]Lady Jaye and the Baroness from G.I. Joe. Hotties, the both of them.[/li][li]Daisy Duke, of course[/li][li]Niko from Galaxy Rangers[/li][/ul]
I’m sure that there are more lodged in my twisted memory somewhere…

I have a huge crush on him, too! I also dig the foreign guy.

No, Shirley, you got the names wrong! It’s Bo Duke and A.J. Simon!

Punkyova, you are not the only one who had a crush on Newkirk. (I think I might still have one, I haven’t seen an episode in quite some time - but you’re right, the crush is definately Newkirk not Dawson himself :))

Judge Harry Stone - Night Court
Autolycus - Hercules
Chris Stevens - Northern Exposure

Oh, these three are gonna kill me to tell, I’m almost too embarassed to type…

Murdoch - A-Team (this one may not count, the crush is sorta on Dwight Schultz, not just Murdoch (of course that’s kind of embarassing to admit in and of itself))

I, too, had a Quantum Leap crush, but it was not Sam Beckett, it was Al Calavicci. I can’t figure out why, either. Dean Stockwell is a great actor, I love him in everything he’s done - but Al just pushed my buttons. (It might have been the whole astronaut thing.)

The Green Lantern - I was VERY young!

Harold (Patrick McKenna) on The Red Green Show. He’s as sweet as a pan of butterscotch fudge. And Patrick McKenna is so dreamy when he’s not wearing the horn-rims and the 20-grade hair tonic! I’d love to spend a weekend at Possum Lake!

Her Highness Senator Leia Organa Skywalker.

If it has to be TV shows, then Judzea Dax, Deep Space Nine– This is definately the character, not the actress. When she doesn’t have a script, she’s got about two and a half brain cells.

Mary Ann Summers, Gilligan’s Island. Drool. I hear rumor that there was some other girl on the Island, Ulysses Grant or something? Not even close.

Blossum. I thought she was so sexy and I oftened watched her trying to figure out how come I found her face with a rather large crooked nose so damn sexy.

Well … where do I start …

Katie Holmes’ character JOEY on Dawson’s Creek
Jessica Biel’s character on 7th Heaven - Mary I think it is.
Also … when I was really young it was Princess from Battle of the Planets.

Who didn’t love Winnie Cooper from the Wonder Years, I just wonder at the 1% illegal … is that all? (see earlier post)

Ahhh … to be young and in love ?

change is coming …

Shirley Ujest shares…

Hmmmmmm…well, if you eat ALL your veggies (and there’s no meat on the plate :p) I’ll admit to having a big thing for Bo Duke in my younger days. I kept a scrapbook and even went to a concert and got a kiss from the actor who played him (though I suspect the crush went beyond the character and included the actor, but still…)

I’m still trying to figure out who my biggest character (vs actor) crush would be…

But hopefully I’ve made SU feel a >wee< better about her infactuation.

Does anyone watch Charmed (TV show about three witches who are sisters)? I reckon Piper is quite possibly the most sweet beautiful woman I have ever seen anywhere.

Oh … how can I forget Piper … mmm Holly Marie Combes

I like Alyssa Milano also (Phoebe on Charmed) and when I was a kid I had a huge crush on her when she was in Who’s The Boss

Perhaps it’s just a sign of a romantic soul, but I have had plenty of TV crushes over the years. Most notably: Seven of Nine (Voyager); Susan Ivanova (Bab5); Laurie Hibberd (Fox After Breakfast); the mother on Malcolm in the Middle; Scully (X-Files); Vash (ST:TNG); and many more than I can go into here.

But if we’re talking most embarrassing, then there’s nothing more embarrassing than admitting that you’ve found yourself attracted (emotional AND sexually) to a cartoon character. But God help me that’s what I’m confessing here today. For me while growing up, there was nobody who could compare to Daphne from Scooby Doo. Maybe I’m just a sucker for reheads, but there was just something about Daphne that really did it for me. I even liked that stupid purple outfit she always wore.

Oh sure, there were other women in the cartoon world who caught my eye: Judy Jetson, Betty Rubble, Penelope Pitstop (now *that’s going back a few years!). But I always came back to Daphne. Maybe it was just her stunning good looks, maybe it was the fact that her parents obviously didn’t care if she took off for days at a time, maybe it was that she had access to a van. I don’t know. All I know is that to this day all a woman has to do to win me over is wear a purple dress, scratch my tummy and say, “Who wants a Scooby Snack?”
