Emoji test 💩

Where did it go? It was there when I composed the post
Test: . So lets see if these 6 show up.
ETA: WTF?

I see the Android logo…
(Not really)

Windows 7 and Firefox here, most characters can be seen; but a few, like the first 2 characters in the last line of the previous post, appear as a boxes with numbers.

Do I need to install a language pack or what changes should I make to the browser?

Running the latest firefox on a desktop I see nothing but boxes. After a cursory googling it appears I need to install a greasemonkey script to translate the emoji into pictures; I can’t even find a proper plugin. I’ll take a pass on emoji.

I’m pretty sure Esperanto is for the quadriplegic devotee sub-forum. :love_hotel::couple_with_heart:

I’m running FireFox on a Windows laptop, and it’s showing me most of the pics without me doing anything.

You’re not missing much.

Odd. It works on Windows 8 Firefox, but not on Windows XP Firefox. And I’ve upgraded all my XP fonts with the newer Windows 8 versions. So either it’s from a font I don’t have on XP, or there’s something messed up about extended Unicode support in Windows XP.

I do have a lot of free fonts installed on my Win8 machine (for SVG work on Wikipedia–as they only use free fonts), but I wouldn’t expect most of you to have them.

Anyways, I think I’ll stick to the dingbats, geometric shapes, and miscellaneous symbols from standard Unicode, which have much, much better support.

Unless you’re using a Mac.

In Spain …

:spain:

I wonder whether the Unicode emoji code-points are off the Basic Multilingual Plane, and hence have values greater than FFFF hex? Maybe XP can’t deal with that?

No. No, it isn’t. It’s for those who like to travel. (not an emoji). (an emoji).

Edit: Hmm. Pressing the Edit button and changing something in the edit window broke the emoji. The original quoting did not. Interesting.

This thread from a coding forum hints that inability to handle codepoints greater than FFFF is the problem.

Finally, a reason to choose a Mac!

It’s not just an XP thing. I’m using Chrome on Windows 7, and just see boxes.

Trying it with Tapatalk.

Nope. Emojis in older messages display, but if I type them in a message posted from Tapatalk, nothing.

Is this a good username/post combo or a good one because it is exactly wrong…

:cool::exclamation:
I can type my most recent poem in Cherokee, “ᎾᏆᏍ ᎤᎹᎿᏜ ᏅᏯ! ᎾᏆᏌᏩ, ᎾᏌᏯᏩᏀ ᏂᎾ ᏌᏜᏍᏀᏌ ᏆᏌᏌᏆᏆᎾᏀᏀᎹ”…, but Autocorrect plays havoc with the spelling.

And I might as well use color in a post, for the first and I think last time.

Ignorance majorly fought, and I’m sure by telling other people I will hasten the inevitable change of the written English language.
