End of the Left Behind series? (spoilers, I hope)

I stopped reading these books years ago, but I’d like to hear how it ended. THey always said that only one of the major characters would live. There was the pilot guy, his daughter, her reporter husband, the Jewish scientist and the Jewish preacher, when I stopped reading.

Now that the last book is out, what happened to everyone? Who lived? Who died?

It’d be kinda interesting to know.

As the Officially Designated Reader of the Left Behind Series for the SDMB…

sorry, haven’t read Glorious Appearing yet.

I’ll get back with you as soon as I do.

Okay. Thanks, Thea!

In case no one has said it yet, thank you for your sacrifice.

Ok, I read it. I’m not ashamed (well, yes, I am, but I’ll admit to reading it anyway).
Pilot guy: Rayford Steele - survived until the end
Daughter - Chloe - died, captured without the mark and beheaded. Naturally converted a number of women in the prison for non-mark-takers before she bought it.
Reporter husband: Buck - bought it in the next to last book, at the end of the book. I don’t remember how - I think he was with a bunch of non-evil soldiers, fighting.
Jewish Scientist: Chaim Rosenweig(?) if that’s who I think it was, he survived until the end. Became the leader of the group who were in exile, worked to convert the remaining Jews before Jesus cme back).
Jewish preacher: Tsion Ben Judah - died, either next to last book or the one before that. I don’t remember how though.

Basically, the last book:

Rayford’s hurt. We found him and brought him back to the camp of exiles place (I reallly don’t remember the name of it - for some reason I’m thinking Petra, but I’m not sure). Wait, Jesus is coming back, so he (and every other believer that was hurt or sick) is cured! Hooray!

Mac, another pilot guy (good), is dressed as a bad guy and in a bunker with Super Evil Dude and his cronies. Sees the REALLY Super Evil Demon that’s possessing the other guy -

oops - didn’t mean to hit the submit button. Where was I?

Oh, Mac sees the really super evil thing that’s possessing the other evil guy. I wanted Buffy to pop out and slay the demon at that point, but it didn’t happen.

Jesus comes back. Hooray! Much fighting. Jesus wins (duh). Everyone’s happy.

Pilot guy sees his dead daughter, his first wife and son, his second wife and so on. Yippee.

The end, unti they find a way to extend the series somehow. Probably a book about how wonderful living after armageddon is with Jesus there.

Okay, about what I suspected. Boy, sounds like a riveting drama…

Though the eschatology is detestable, those books woulda been much better had there only been, say, five or six.

Soo… how exactly does Jesus fight? Does he go all kung-fu on the demons? Does he blast them with holy beams of power? Convert them to Christianity? Wrestle Godzilla-style, smashing buildings in his path? Big, holy gun?

Holy hand grenades, perhaps?

The ringside angel slips him a folding chair through the steel cage when the ref’s back is turned.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for I’m bringin’ the pain!”

From my limited knowledge, he’s a big wrestling fan. The Helicopter being his favorite move:

Bump.

I am up to book 5 in this poorly written series that I cannot stop reading because it is so bad. Last night I woke my partner 3 times by laughing:

  1. In Jerusalem, eating “pita and sauce.” Sauce? **Sauce? ** Uh, you mean something like hummos? Or tahini? Perhaps Messers Jenkins & LaHaye have never bothered to find out anything about the Middle East. But the whole series reads like a bad translation anyway.

  2. Speaking of translation–so the convert rabbi’s preachin’ in the stadium and due to a miracle, the holy speakers do not need translation to be understood. The crowd is shouting to get rid of the translators: “Nein!” and “nyet!” What’s wrong with this picture? Uh, that the two “biblical scholars” (sic) who wrote this book apparently don’t know how to say “No!” in Hebrew?

  3. They have to go in a bar to find their driver. Oh no! Gasp! Not only are people DRINKING and DANCING, but SOME OF THEM ARE NOT OF THE OPPOSITE SEX! *Surely the Second Coming is at Hand! *

I read somewhere-I don’t have a link at the moment, but I’m sure I can locate it-that there’s supposedly going to be a prequel-type book, or something of that nature.

Can’t stop milking the Christian Cash Cow, it seems!

They’ve discussed possible prequels & a Millenium sequel. No action on it, however. They also want to do quality film productions & rescind CLOUD TEN PRODUCTIONS lock on the movie rights.

Jenkins is writing another Apocalyptic series based on the premise that religious extremists launch a devastating nuclear war, so the post-war greatly empowered UN bans religion from the world. The first book was called SOON. The second is either out or ready to be released but I forget the title.

LaHaye has teamed with another writer in a series about an “Indiana Jones”-type Christian archaeologist who goes on adventures to find Biblical relics. The first book BABYLON RISING, about something associated with the prophet Daniel, hasn’t taken off as well as the LEFT BEHIND novels.

A couple other writers are doing LB parallel novels of a military & political thriller nature.

At a glance, that sounds interesting.

Has anyone read it? If so, tell me what you think of it.
