Enough with the damn rain already

I’m sure that my fellow Austin Dopers will agree. STOP FUCKING RAINING!!! Every day for the last week to 10 days it has rained. It may be more days than that, but they are all blending together.

According to weather.com Austin has had 9.22 inches of rain so far this month, and that probably doesn’t count what we got overnight. FTR, the average amout of rain in Austin for June is 3.81 inches, and we are now closing in on one foot.

It is so bad that worms have taken to crawling under my front door. I picked up 3 last night and another 5 this morning. Okay okay, I know that I need to fix the weather stripping, but geez.

I was surprised when I got home yesterday that my pool wasn’t overflowing. I was really surprised when it wasn’t overflowed this morning. If it isn’t overflowed when I get home, I may just take that as the work of God and find religion for myself or something.

Again, enough with the rain. It is getting old already.

Dallas. Same fucking thing. As of last night we had more rain this month than any June since 1928. And it poured buckets this morning, which probably makes this the wettest June in history. Really puts a damper on things, you know? Kind of a web blanket of a month.

Preach it, brothah! Houston here. My poor dog has to swim to go take a crap in the yard! The only positive out of this is that it’s not too hot. Yet.

They are saying the mosquitoes will hatch next week. Oh joy.

I didn’t realize that the Big Soak was affecting most of Texas.

I never gave any thought to mosquitos before. I think that I’ll stock up on OFF next chance I get. I guess that one small bonus would be that most of the water isn’t stagnant, so maybe they won’t be that bad.

Also, thank Og that it isn’t 95[sup]o[/sup] plus. That kind of heat and humidity…

Dallas here too (Plano actually). Love the temperature, but damn I need to mow something awful.

I was driving past the local army surplus store and my wife and I found ourselves seriously considering stopping in and picking up some machetes and letting the kids loose with them in the side yard. Most of the yard is under reasonable control, but the side yard seems to get more sun or something and it grows outrageously fast and it has been too damn wet to mow recently.

Enjoy,
Steven

Machetes and kids - that is a scary combination…especially if they saw Princess Bride on TV last Friday.

Actually, according to the Satesman this morning, we’ve had over THIRTEEN freaking inches this month, tow inches shy of the record. And now it’s pouring again. And I’ve got tickets to the 7:05 pm show of Spiderman 2 at the Alamo Village which means standing around in the rain. Man, it’s gettin’ old…

I’ve been enjoying the new wading pools in my flower beds in my front yard for the last two days.

If only we could install a giant umbrella over Austin.

Fort Worth Checking in.

Ay, the front porch is smelling very moldy!

I keep telling myself that by August when it’s dry as a bone, I’ll be wishing for the rain.

We got a mosquito thing for the yard in anticipation of all the mosquitos. Hopefully it will kick in, soon! As it is now, they keep biting the baby when ever we leave the house, regardless of the precautions we take. Bastards.

Nah, we’ve been considering getting them some anyway(and we’ve had Princess Bride on DVD for years). Gotta teach them proper use and handling of dangerous items at some point. Can’t child-proof the world, need to world-proof the child. Kid versus weeds in the yard under a parent’s eye is a much better choice than kid vs kid on the playground with something one of them sneaked past the teachers. I remember my childhood with a short sword being my weapon of choice in the alley behind the house. No sunflowers were safe, or those huge overgrown patches of dandilion. I think a couple, at least, of my kids are ready to take those first steps towards becoming able to handle the responsibility of a blade.

Enjoy,
Steven

On Preview Psst Babs it’s the bitches that bite, not the bastards.

We are so sick of the rain- it’s summer break and I’ve had to rearrange the kids summer schedules to where we’ve done all the indoor, expensive trips that I had originally planned to space out over the whole break. It’s wrecking my budget.

I also committed to mowing the neighbors grass while there were on vacation for 3 weeks. We had a dry day Sunday so I pushed and dragged the mower through two really overgrown, swampy lawns. I was so glad I did because they came home about an hour later. Surely they would have believed me (“really, it rained every single day while you were gone”).

Finally, we have a cabin rental that we set up weeks and weeks ago. I sure hope the rain goes away- I don’t want to get all the way to the cabin just to sit inside all week and, of course, hill country cabins are non-refundable. No tubing, no swimming, no hiking, no fun.

At least nothing’s been washed away this time.

Send it this way. Since January 1, we’ve had just shy of 30 inches of rain. Of course, that’s January 1, 1999. But it sprinkled a little bit today, so all’s well.

Hmmf.

At least Austin’s on high ground.

Out here near Canyon Lake, all the lakefront and riverfront people are walking on tiptoes.

And the management of Schlitterbahn is about ready to commit mass suicide…

Weird semi Texan here, (about an hour from Dallas, and, if you read my other thread, about to return to AK), I LOVE this rain. I’m sorry guys, but I could just stand out in it. It’s sooooooooooo warm, and there’s SO MUCH of it. A person can do just about anything outside without getting too hot. (well except mow the lawn, sorry :D)

And the thunder and lightening storms that sometimes accompany the rain. Heck, now i get why tourists are always so enthralled with Northern Lights.

Anchorage was NEVER like this. It never rains there (well almost never, I guess they got some weird Texaslike rain a few days ago), it just sorta drizzles. Sometimes it’s not much more than a mist.

And COOOOLD??? Even in the summer, forget it, it can be 80, but if it starts raining, and you’re outside, you’re gonna get chilled REAl fast.

Sigh, the RAIN I’ll miss. But I can see where longtime Texans would be sick of it.

Hate to rain on ya’ll’s parade, but out here in West Texas all this rain is welcome. Sure would be nice to have some more water in those things they call “lakes” out here.

Here in H-town I haven’t been able to get a game of golf in practically all month. It’s freakin’ killin’ me!

It’s been raining most every day for two weeks here in Georgia, but no complaints … we’re more used to it, I guess. And my sympathies on the undergrowth … I feel sure Astroturf was invented by someone who left home over the weekend and returned to find his lawn had invaded his living room.

Jackson, Mississippi here … we’re trying to keep the grass mowed at two different houses. Last grass cutting I attempted, I was soaked to the skin with a downpour after about 15 minuites. With the intermittent sun, the grass etc. is growing like crazy. Water is Standing in our yard of the house-on-the hill. No wonder they call this the sub-tropics! AND a pox on anyone not feeling the humidity. No use wearing linen in this crap. I’d rather wear my bra and boxers to work. Bah!

Sweatily yours,

Sweden checking in. Rain, rain rain. We had a sunny day yesterday, but apart from that it’s been solid rain for weeks. And my vacation starts Monday.
