Enterprise Civilization Spoiler

Tellertie?
I didn’t see any damn Tellerite.

Maybe they re-makeuped the pigs so now they have spots! or ridges! like Ruffle’s potato chips!

Clearly, it was a Targ.

Duh.

All I can say is

Scott Bakula in a lip-lock. And a brawl. ::Pant,pant::

I am one happy trekkie.

Best ep yet. One geek’s opinion.

Outstanding script. Loved the attention to detail and the way they have Archer screwing up whenever he tries to throw his weight around (“The yellow button! No, the blue!”)

And T’Pol and Hoshi in their little medieval disguises. Rowwr.

Trip looked like a big ole elf.

Say what?

The tellarite was hypothetical, I think upon a second viewing.
Sorry to dissapoint.
^:)^

Quoting:

T’Pol to Archer: “Are you all right? He said you’d been killed.”

(Yes, I realize that T’Pol was inquiring after his well-being because he might have been seriously injured.) But somehow, the line just struck me as funny.

That’s all.

I thought this episode was very reminiscent of the original series (and I mean that in a good way). Archer’s solution to a busted translater was positive Kirkian.

I agree - best one yet. Like T’Pol better with the long hair (softens her - which she needs) and liked her a teeny bit when she was animated and not doing her robot schtick; and oh yeah, the “are you alright, they said you’d been killed” line struck me funny too. Like, does it look like I’ve been killed?

Hate to beat a dead horse, but my s.o. saw it for the first time last night and I wanted his opinion of T’Pol. He didn’t salivate over her (which was a surprise), and he said she seemed more like a Klingon than a Vulcan. I said “she’s arrogant.” He said, yeah, that’s what I mean - she has an attitude like the Klingons." Hmmmm…well,I feel somewhat vindicated anyway. Of course the Klingons are extremely emotional, but his point was the arrogant, superior attitude she gives off.

I rather liked it. She didn’t know if Garos was lying or an illogical idiot.

I thought it was hilarious that they gave hoods to everybody with normal ears, and T’Pol had to run around hiding her ears under long hair… Spock would have gotten a hood.

The Tellerite line seemed like a throw away as if to show the Visitors (oops I mean Lizard guys) were big time travellers of the universe.

The “Said you were Dead” line seemed to more of a warning that Garos was trying to fool the Enterprise. Don’t forget shortly after he told them that he tried to tell Archer to come out and we’ll send you back to a waiting shuttle.

Mind you putting the Are you alright line before that makes it sound dopey.

I think the Tellerite reference was Garos suspecting that an untrustworthy business partner had spilled the beans on his little operation.

Might this reference to the Tellerites have been dropped in this episode to foreshadow an actual introduction of the Tellerites themselves a few shows down the road?! I can only hope so! :stuck_out_tongue:

Am also in agreement that it was one of the best episodes yet. LOL, give me more of Archer being romantic any time.

tarragon

This was a good episode. It shows why Trek is so popular in that they can do so many different kinds of stories. It began as a tale of exploration and changed into a story of intrigue and espionage.

One complaint: Yet another episode that has Our Heroes go underground! They spend nearly as much time in tunnels and caves as a spelunker or a coal miner!

I can’t believe what I’m hearing. To paraphrase the Simpsons Comic Book Guy, “Worst episode ever.”

Now, I’m probably gonna tread into sticky territory, but how in the hell can the translator gadgetry allow for perfect lip synch? I mean, aren’t pre-industrial folks going to think it’s a bit odd that there are people whose lips don’t match what they’re saying, and that their “voices” are coming from somewhere other than their mouth?

I guess they’ve got little holographic projectors floating around, like Rimmer’s ‘light bees’ casting the illusion of properly synched lips onto the faces of Archer & co.

It was never stated in the episode, but how long did the Enterprise stay in orbit in order to construct a viable database for the Akali’s written language, taking into account the various script styles they’re likely to have?

And the ship’s sensors are good enough to provide a crystal-clear facial shot, but cannot detect a shuttle pod from the other ship? The geosynchronous orbit thing blocking the other ship from detection I can handle, but not a tractor beam-equipped shuttle hovering within walking distance of the town.

Gaah. And I though the comet episode was bad, science-wise.

Oh, one other thing–Trip’s statement that arranged marriages “went out with slavery” is just dead wrong–so sez my wife the anthropologist. They’re still going on today.

So sez my friend in the arranged marriage.

We can just chalk that one up to Trip’s stupidity though.

The Universal Translator is a literary device, an attempt to explain how everyone speaks English.

Sure, it’s a “literary device” but it still does nothing to explain away my assertation that it does nothing to make up for lip synch, and how that impresses upon a pre-industrial society.

If they’re gonna take the time and effort explaining how they intend to look like the planet’s inhabitants, they better explain the lip synch problem.
