Archer really should have busted Trip’s butt to get the point across. But I can see two reasons why he didn’t:
One could make an admittedly weak argument that since there is not yet a Prime Directive, Trip hasn’t actually violated any regulations.
To be yelled at and then ignored by Archer is the worst possible punishment for a guy like Trip.

Imagine the call from the set that week: “Hey, Anthony Montgomery, we need you to come to the bridge set today to shoot a scene. All we need is three minutes of your time to set it up, light it and rehearse it. Or maybe five minutes if the others flub their lines.”
Just don’t stereotype Southerners based on what you think you know from your education, however wonderful it may be.
Until you are born and raised in the South, you really have no idea what it’s like. As I have no idea of what’s it’s really like to be you. (Though I did live in LA for 7 years, so I have a little bit of insight there. Though, for the most part, I was a Southerner living in LA.)
