1. Why is it that they never rub that gel on their faces and scalps? Are they immune to microorganisms from the neck up? The only exception to this was when Trip rubbed gel on T’Pol’s ears in the series pilot.
2. And why only on exposed skin from the neck down? What about the covered parts?
3. How do/will they resolve this later? Nobody on TOS ever had to decon after an away mission. Theory: Before they even think of going anywhere off their ship, everyone gets a long-lasting decon shot or pill.
I’ve missed a few episodes, but I didn’t think that I’ve missed that many. Is this a regular occurance? How many times has it shown people doing this? The only one I saw was in the pilot.
Achernar, twice a year the crew gets infected with a bacterial organism called Sweepsial Panderus. If they don’t survive it, it could spell doom for the entire future of the crew.
1 & 2 - They do, you just don’t see it in the episodes. (Although I’m pretty sure T’Pol removes her top to rub the gel on in one episode)

They probably rub all over because spores can get everywhere. they should be stripped naked and hosed down by Phlox in a biohazard suit. I don’t think it will get resolved. They might even use it in the Enterprise movie to get an R rating.

Decon has now entered the vocab of Trekkers as meaning a sexually provocative sceen. Not really, but we can dream, can’t we?

But, yeah, TPTB are just pandering, plain and simple. Since we all are looking for the good bits, they don’t have to be very logical or practical. ST: TNG always used the transporter for decon, remember the biofilters?

At the risk of addressing the OP… I think that they will not necessarily need to address why TOS doesn’t have decon… at some point they mention that the teleporters can be used to screen many diseaes/organisms, so presumably once they start using the 'porters on a regular basis, decon is no longer needed

The decon sauna was Hoshi, Trip, and T’Pol showing quite a bit of leg and butt. All of them were in the flimsiest looking undergarment type things. So, it pandered to everyone. Except the panda lovers.
