Didn’t Archer surpass Trip in the ME SMASH! tantrums a while ago?
I’d tell you, but it is my secret shame. I’m just saying i can’t believe they showed them on TV without pixelating them!
Time to so my laundry. I mean, my SPACE-laundry!
The Squire of Gothos, indeed. That’s the first thing that came to mind.
So, it was absolutley impossible to leave one other person on the planet with Hoshi?
And of course, CLH tries to kidnap a crew member, but Archer is ready to believe eveything he has to say about the Xindi.
I liked the way Hoshi translated a book with absolutely no reference material. Someone needs to turn her loose on Linear B.
Who’s to say she hasn’t already cracked it? She does live a hundred and fifty years in the future after all.
"MEDIEVAL KLINGON"?!?!!
It all turned out that Linear B was just shorthand for Tenecious D!
Jack Black, Master of Language!
(sorry, the clothers are dry, time to pick a bad bad bad movie to watch tonight.)
Well, Tars if you’re intent on watching a Jack Black movie tonight, may I heartily recommend Shallow Hal? It is the best movie of this millennium, after all.
Stuff I liked:
Hoshi’s headband, a glimpse of her quarters, her little dress, creepy stuff on the monitors with corresponding music, unblinking Phlox/Tarquin, some backstory on Hoshi which we should have had quite some time ago. Linda Park did a good job showing that Hoshi really does have fire in the belly when she has to.
Aes, I think you’ll like this one…We’ll see. Sending tape tomorrow.
Tarquin…that’s the name of Sheridan Bucket’s “Friend” on Keeping up Appearances. That’s why I couldn’t accept it as an alien’s name.
The bouncing shuttle scene was a hoot! And somehow they just knew it was gonna stop before it hit them! Oh man, that’s hilarious.
A very common screw up: They had Hoshi say “anxious” when she should have said “Eager.”
Did MayBarelyThere say anything?
Tarquin was living on the Matterhorn!
Hey, everyone, you won’t believe this… I was reading the incredibly boring copy of inside english while the kiddos were midterming, and what did I find on page 19? “Pandering with Panda Bears [sic]” !!!
It was something about how not to teach. Here’s another sentence: “Panda research may or may not be vital, but it sure rakes in steady bucks.”
Hey, writer of the above, are you on this thread, or did you just lurk a bit and steal our stuff???
What’s the matter with that? They don’t have history, a changing language and she isn’t interested in studying languages?
Okaaaaaayy…
Beauty and the Beast meets Squire of Gothos meets some British Lit about a noble and his secret dead wives.
Every time Crab legs head talked I kept humming the theme from Beuty and the beast… really worked nicely. Of course teh Dinner scene I had to sing “Be my Guest”
Once again we go into new age mumbo jumbo. Ooooo everything is imprinted by the those who previously owned them.
This glowing piece of glass extends my psychic powers, just close your eyes and feel the images.
The Images, from what I saw all appear to be from previous episodes. Anybody find that Hoshi’s acting during her “angry scenes” was pretty, well… awful. Here is a creepy guy who reads her mind and won’t let her go and she barely raises her voice.
Medeival Klingon??? Crap on a cracker where and how did this stupid term come into existance? Sorry but that bird won’t fly amigo!
Nice diet Hoshi, A burger, a Pizza slice are the only foods that this guy can pull from your mind? Sheesh.
50 Death Stars, well the empire has nothing on these Xindi do they?
So This guy loves Hoshi and wants to prevent her from being harmed so he sends teh crew off to a Xindi colony. Yeah, I’ll trust him. After all he was ready to threaten the lives of teh crew and decieve Hoshi. I’m sure this is a good lead.
If this guy can read her mind so well why wouldn’t he know right away that she meant it. You know like the scene in “The cage” where the Keepers realize that Human’s really hate captivity.
For a guy who knows everything about her he makes some dumb mistakes, as soon as he sensed she wasn’t being decived he should have been able to counter.
Nice scene with the ladder and the decompression but damn if the anomallys are really that destructive why the hell is this ship functioning at all? Are the walls hollow? Is there nothing interupted by this nasty intrusion.
“Better stay away from the Launch bay,” not bad. T’pol’s reaction wasn’t to bad either.
Over all a dumb dull episode.
“Song as old as time… can’t think of a rhyme. This episode rates a D”
I also thought Beauty and the Beast. I felt rather sorry for Hermit Crab Head…couldn’t they take him with them?
The destruction to the ship…how come when the hull was breached there was no mention of it on the bridge?
Captain always accompanies First Contact missions? Hell’s Bells, paging Continuity Man! Jeez louise, do Bergman and Braga even remember TOS?
At least it was better than that horrible episode two weeks ago where Hoshi, Archer, and Reed regressed. I just cringed at how embarrassing that was.
TNG was just classier than this, and DS9 was gritty, with nice undercurrents of betrayal and mystique. This is just…icky.
In their defense, this was a century before TOS. There’s no telling what procedural rules changed in those hundred years.

What’s wrong with it is that “medieval” applies only to languages and cultures that actually went through the medieval period. You don’t hear linguists talking about “medieval Cherokee” or “medieval Mayan”, do you? Heck, even though Japan went through its own feudal period in parallel with the feudal period in Europe, we don’t refer to the language of the time as “medieval Japanese”!
Are they trying to say that the Klingon homeworld went through a feudal period of its own that paralleled western Europe on Earth so much that they have to call it “medieval”?! (Hell, even the Yangs and the Coums didn’t exhibit that much parallel evolution!)
I had no problem with “the captain always participates in first conact missions”. I saw it as a convenient lie that Archer told CLH in order to stop his insistence that Hoshi visit alone.
Main Entry: medieval
Function: adjective
Etymology: New Latin medium aevum Middle Ages
Date: 1827
1 : of, relating to, or characteristic of the Middle Ages
2 : extremely outmoded or antiquated
The episode was ho-hum. They didn’t significantly advance the arc or the characters.
They had so much potential to explore Hoshi’s character and they threw it away. They should have had Enterprise crippled and limping back (with an asteriod four hours behind it, all the way ) and Hoshi would have to stay for a few months. She would have to face the possibility of staying despite being kidnapped. Then we would have a Helsinki Syndrome going. He could invade her dreams and had her meet her grandfather again and romp and play. They could have had fun and she could have entertained the idea.
My friend here at work said that “Hoshi” can mean “Sun-born” (a star being born), Sato can mean “Person-left - grass/Wisteria” (a person on the left, i.e. an assistant; and Wisteria), and Michio can mean “the road-way of the husband, or 3 - knowledge - husband”. So I guess Hoshi’s gandfather saw her as marrying three guys in her life or of just travelling on the same road as her husband, while her parents saw her as a Rising Star - or the head assistant to a groundskeeper.
I loved the scientifically-silly scene with the Pod on the Death Star. Let’s give them accidentally firing the thrusters. Then I think the Pod would continue to rotate just as much on descent and would fall slower than it did. The gravity seemed to take over too quickly. The bouncing should have lasted longer since gravity is weak and there’s no atmosphere. Imagine they had to wait for minutes for it to settle down - first they stand, then pace, then sit - and just watch it bounce for a while. I’ve made no calculations, so what think you all about the fact that it should bounce more before settling?
Archer: “What happened?” Trip: “The port thruster ignited” Archer: “I can see that!” Trip: “Son of a Bitch!”; “I need to spend more time in the Armory” L:pL
i got visions of Klingons dressed as knights at the Renissance festival.
Thou Art Pah’tahk’!
Klingons of the Round table!
I shall save G’hinve’re from the Targ-Dragon!
This is my BOOM-Bat’leth!
Do we need a listing/meaning of each of the “visions”? There were 50 scenes/images. I think I heard the previews speak of the “visions” as being of the future but I don’t remember any statement like that in the story. Anyone hear differently? I ask this beacuse some of the images have not occurred in the series so they are either the past or the future.
…
OH MY GOD!!! What blatant exploitation! The previews for next week (the season opener) were designed to grab you by the libido and give you a yank!
Announcer: “And it” Screen: “KEEPS” Archer: “Stand by Weapons” Ann/Screen: “GETTING” T’Pol: {taking off shirt} {cupping breasts} “Are you ready?” Ann/Screen: “BETTER” Archer: “I’ll be damned” L:pL
