(sputtering) Okay, maybe that was a bad example. I’ll get back to you when I get a good one but rest assured that I stand by my belief that science fiction usually NEEDS to lean more on the fiction than the science just to have a good story.
But there is also the argument that Joss glosses over some of that because it could get in the way of the story. Space travel is just a dramatic device to get them to new situations, like “Rawhide” wasn’t really a history of the cattle drives. My problem with the various “Treks” is that they too often use McGuffin science to get them out of situations, in a deus ex machina manner, rather than simply to get them into the situations. Having Trip reconfigure the warp signature to look more Klingon was a cheap device but I suppose it beat us watching six months of negotiations with the Klingon High Council.
I got the DVD Saturday, cplant, but haven’t had a chance to watch it yet since I also got my three netflix DVDs then too and try to watch those ASAP. Will probably make a night of it later tonight.

My guess is that Blalock has subscribed to to the insane notion still currently circulating in Hollywood that there’s no such thing as being too thin and somehow managed to take a few pounds off her already tiny frame. Compare recent pictures of her to those taken a few years back. Her face and neck are starting to look gaunt.
Also, yes she definately joined Starfleet. In the “Borderland” episode, Archer compliments her on her commission (as a commander - check her “uniform” and you’ll see the three bars on her collar). There was some discussion in the episode thread as to whether or not that violated canon, but it turns out that the idea that Spock was the first Vulcan to serve in Starfleet was not estableshed canon.
