Enterprise Similitude & Spoilers

Good episode. Looks like the shows finally caught its wind. This was not a copy of other episode, dealt with the issue and had a good amount of panda. I left it thinking, wow, I wonder how Tripp feels. Thats a good thing. Also they actually referenced a episode from seasons past without making it painfully obvious they were doing so.
The first time I’ve seen someone back out of stealing a shuttle. They always fly off and get caught by the tractor beam. All in all a solid episode.
I would feel awkward as if I was T’pol during the next acupressure session.

Trip: So am I doing this right?
T’Pol: I made out with your 5 day old clone.
Trip: What?
T’Pol: I said a little to the left.

Damn what a good episode. Nice moral delemma and Quantum actually thinking of ordering a being to kill itself. Plox seemed quite upset by what he had to do but damn as a Doctor would he ever have really agreeed to this?

Some one tell T’pol to be a little more Vulcan… unless Sim had a particularly strong body oder causing her eyes to water.

The biology blows but like true trek the story makes you forget to be angry over the obvious bad science. Let’s face it anyone with a growing child knows about the amount of sleeping and eating that occurs during a growth spurt. SIM should have been doing nothing but those two things during his five days but it wouldn’t have been much of a show.

Carnivorousplant is absolutley corect this is one of the most Trekish episode in a long long time.

I’m overlooking little fiddly details and ignoring the whole bizzare ship frozen in place as if inertia doesn’t exist in space and I’m going to give this one an unprecedented (For Grumpy old me) A solid A-

ACK!
Get…cardiac…stimulator…

Had to go to Spanish class so I’m just now watching this on video.
Why did Phlox have togrow a complete clone out of the leech? Why not just harvest some nuerons and culture them only? I seem to remember a journal (in real life) discussing something like this and indicating we are already perilously close to doing this now. So, in the future, and with all the other species helping our progress (whether intentional or not), we should have this capabilty. What is it called, Tars?

But, it would’ve been a completely different show if done that way.

And… memories are genetic? Hmm…

Started off with some nice panda. Say what you will, that girl has a bod!

And lots of Porthos!

As for the lack of inertia… NX-01 was travelling in subspace. It had no real space velocity. That’s what impulse engines are for. But, it wasn’t running on impulse, it was at Warp in subspace. Mumble jumble dippity do.

Why couldn’t they reverse polarise the hull plating to get rid of the pop rocks?

Wow yes, that was a good episode! They definitely did not skirt the ethics issue either. I’m loving Trip more and more, although Archer still occupies a special place for me. Just all around a good, well told story.

Plus, I got a good dose of Porthos, and Phlox played a big role too! Now if only we can get them to give Mayweather more of a role!

As much as I hate to agree with NoClue, it appears that warp velocity requires constant power and there is no resultant Newtonian momentum.

Dammit, what book was young Sim reading, War of the Worlds, ERB or one yet to be written?

It’s surprising to hear 'penvin say that but I won’t reach for the defibrillator until Cervaise agrees.

Here are some 1st edition jacket covers. Any of them look familiar? What scene was it in?

Some more.

Wow. Two pretty good episodes in a row. Accident?

Ridiculous science aside, the whole moral dilema aspect of the story was great. Actually, I can more easily overlook the “ridiculous science” easier than out of character moments. When Sim realizes there might be a way to extend his life, and Pjlox and Archer dismiss it as having “only a 1% chance of success”, that was hard to swallow. These guys live for situations with only 1% chance of success.

Anyway, I hope this is a sign of better things to come. And I’m putting more money on the eventual Trip/T’Pol hook-up. Too bad Spock’s parentage is already defined…

You’re telling me! Did you notice that when they put those two shuttlepods into Overdrive to try and tow the ship, Malcom was reading out his engines’ thrust levels in kilodynes? “2500 kilodynes, and the engines are overloadin’, they canna’ take much moor o’ this, Jim!”

2500 kilodynes works out to 5.62 pounds of force. Color me unimpressed by these shuttlepod engines.

DAMN! A fine episode; give it a solid “A” since I wasn’t paying that much attention to the science.

Chronological comments:

–Nice shot of Trip’s physique in T’Pol’s quarters. “More challenging postures” ?! Come on over when I’m doing yoga and Pilates, Trip ol’ boy. I’ll show you some challenges.

–Good job of writing by Manny Coto. He used to write for the most recent incarnation of The Outer Limits. Hope he’s scripted some more eps.

–Wow, Trip’s head hit that floor pretty hard. Hope it was a soft floor.

–Good ethical issue that dealt with some tough stuff without beating us over the head.

–I must say that I was a bit startled by Archer’s comment to T’Pol that his decision might have been different outside the Expanse. Wouldn’t he have done anything he could to save Trip no matter where they were?

–Very cute baby Sim and kid Sim. And the Teen Sim looked a lot like Trinneer.

–Bakula does a good job of showing his discomfort upon seeing baby Sim.

–Why did young Sim accept so quickly what Archer told him? Because he doesn’t to deal with it?

–Great dialogue throughout.

–Some wonderful scenes between Archer and Sim in the ready room; between Sim and T’Pol; between Archer and Sim in Trip’s quarters and in the launch bay; and with Archer, Phlox and Sim in SickBay.

Excellent.

tarragon918: Sorry, but you’ll have to get a Sim. Trip is mine. All mine.

Make that “doesn’t want to deal with it.”
:smack:

One thing bothers me, though…Poor Sim is about to die and nobody offers him any comfort. Were they just trying to keep it together and distance themselves from the situation, or are they really cold as ice?

Maybe Quantum was practicing to sire Kirk.

“Damn it, Spock! I’m sick of your half breed interference!”

Great episode. Simply great.

The ending :frowning:

Yeesh, what a kick in the gut. Just think if every week (or every other week) were written as well. Heck these threads might not even rapidly spin off course with pandas, phaser cutting phasers and other assorted distractions from how bad the last episode was.

I was trying to remember dynes and ergs, but became distracted.
Thrust should be in Newtons, shouldn’t it? Dynes and ergs are work. Work would be related to force exerted on the ship by efficiency of propellors or transmissions or whatever.

ACK! My new VCR didn’t do what I told it to!! Could someone please post a brief sum-up of this episode??? Please??

Accident.

Clone.

Vulcan kiss.

Death.

Shall we flesh it out a little?

A very good episode. The science made me laugh but I could think around it. I loved seeing some character dilemmas. Notice that every time there is one problem - “Need to regrow Trip” - that it has to take on some urgency - “, or we’ll be stuck in the Rustic Expanse” - otherwise they could take their time.[ul][]The funeral sure seemed full of old geezers. :)[]Having Trip and T’Pol talk about work establishes a logical relationship and why T’Pol could fall for Trip - plus the challenging postures.[]Must be cramped in engineering because they used a hand-held camera to film the first scene where Trip is moving between panels trying to stop the overload.[]Captain still has to stand on the bridge. Maybe they should give him a hammock or a trapeze.[]Why do the teaser’s show Trip being blown up and thrown into the railing from one angle and have the reverse angle in the show? I never understood that![]Why is the simbiot’s lifecycle 15 days regardless of the species being reproduced?[]Phlox sure sucks up Trip’s blood sample fast![]Here’s where my slow brain realizes the initial funeral is for Sim-Trip[]Moving fetus was cool.[]Why aren’t the symbiot’s movements, thoughts, eating {good point, kingpengvin} and pooping, etc. all accelerated?[]Gene’s store memories. I thought it was really good for Trip.[]The spaceship model seemed a bit flimsy.[]Sim-boy sees Trip in Sick Bay and says, “He’s Trip.” Just a logical guess? He doesn’t know what he will look like.[]Good looking Sim-teen, but Sim-boy’s voice is better.[]Phase cannons can blow the Rust off the Bay doors. But what blows the Rust off the cannon doors? Okay, they do the cannon doors by hand. So what blows the Rust off the Airlock doors so they can EVA to get to the cannon doors?[]T’Pol has got to have human blood in her she doesn’t know about! Gulping, voice, and tears indeed! Maybe Trip (and Sim-Trip) are pocketing a few milligrams of Trellium-D, just for affect.[]So the cables can hold the shuttles pulling a starship?[]Maybe the 2000 kilodynes was the work to push the accerator button, or the work by each atom of thrust, or he work to push the little accerator needle on the guage, or …[]Mayweather, near the end, turns to the side and says, “12 kph and accelerating.” Okay, to whom is he talking? Reed? In the other pod? The acceleromter should be on his main panel so … ?[]Archer orders the pods back, but don’t you need them to maintain velocity in an accretion field?[]What happened to Denobulan Ethics?
