Ah, but if you watched All Our Yesterdays (referenced earlier in this thread), you’ll see that Spock fared better against a bitter snowstorm than McCoy did. McCoy was no physical giant, but he wasn’t terribly frail either.
Just chiming in with my contribution to Trek geekdom.
[Geek]I figure that it a ship moving FTL can use sensors, it can communicate with a stationary object. If you can “see” a planet while traveling FTL, whatever Barsoomian Ray you use do do that can “see” STL radio waves from a stationary object.[/GEEK]
Barsoomian Ray? i think i am the Expert here on Barsoom!with the possible exception of John Carter of Mars!)
as we all know, the Ninth Ray combines with the ether to create a breathable atmosphere on Barsoom.
The Eighth Ray or Antigravity Ray is the propulsion ray. It repels aircraft from gravity and is used in buoyancy tanks on airships. It is an inherent property of all light, like the Ninth ray.
The other seven rays are ROY G BIV, for those of you out of the loop. Both the Eight and Ninth Rays have different colors, new colors that are indescribable. So, we just need to modify the Ninth ray and use it for faster than light communication! Its just that easy!
of course, it all makes sense now.
Seriously, though, I have no idea what your’re talking about. Did I miss a sci-fi movie that everyone else has watched? If so, I fear I may be less of a geek than I thought I was.
I’ll take pity on you. ‘Barsoom’ is what the natives call the planet Mars in Edgar Rice Burroughs’ books (e.g. ‘Warlord of Mars’, ‘Princess of Mars’, etc.).
No, no, no. T’Pol is excellent! That face! And that scene between her and the engineer guy with the accent was very intense, or was it the engineer guy and somebody else. Well anyway they are both good. T’Pol is sometimes sort of sarcastic, which the show needs.
Don - I just posted re T’Pol in the other thread. I see her as arrogant and feeling superior to everyone and not having respect for Archer. I DID think she was better when she was confiding in Trip about her personal dilemma (maybe that’s the scene you’re referring to?) But that’s my point - in that scene, she didn’t come across as robotic, stiff, and boring. She reacted to Trip’s comments and advice. There were vocal inflections and facial expressions and for once she wasn’t a robot. And just the fact that she ASKED him for advice was a step in the right direction (gee, she’s not Miss Perfect after all), and in the end, did an un-Vulcan like thing by deciding to stay on the ship instead of returning to her betrothed. That bodes well for further development of her character.
