Trip and T’Pau wonder how Our Heroes could have moved so far away from the city on foot after they were busted. They were moved from the city to a military base.
They will just pull another one out of Crewman Daniels’ quarters.
Crewman Daniel’s Quarters…
[Troi voice]I sense a plot device or recurring deux e machina (sp, I also sense a spell checker) worthy of Voyager’s “Reset Button”, TOS “Beam Me Up” or TNG “Holodeck” [/Troi voice]
“The episode was going great, then they fixed everything in the last five minutes with something from Crewman Daniel’s Quarters!”
I seem to recall that they were moved 30 km. I remember a character saying that there is no way they could have moved that fast on foot.
/nitpick
Of all the nitpicks, you picked that one?
This show had so much promise. This last episode was my ‘ultimatim’ episode in that if it sucked as bad as most of them this season, I would stop watching.
The ultimatim episode switches to next week. This one wasn’t great, but it didn’t suck that bad.
[wail] Man this show had so much potential. Why do they have to screw it up so bad! [/wail]
True to form, Archer finds a way to get the crap beaten out of him, just like most episodes. That must have been his favorite exercise in acting school.
Question: when they were shooting their way out of the hanging compound at the end, were they actually KILLING the planet people? Sure looked like it. I hope so! (not only would it be cool and grim, but it would help minimize the cultural contamination)
As for being “surgically altered” to look like the autochthones, how good of a surgeon must the Doc be if you can just RIP the prosthetics off? “Spirit-Gum Altered” might have been a better description.
Even so, I enjoyed it. But I do like finding flaws…Timmy
The guy who said “You’ve been surgically altered!” had been watching too much Star Trek. Just makeup. Perhaps Phlox is a thespian.
Tars! No Hoshi/T’Pau jokes!
Is it T’Pau or T’Pol?
T’Pol. Sorry.
The character was originally to be T’Pau of “Amok Time”.
Were they stunning the bad guys? Is the “stun” beam a different color from lethal?
Writing problems? Here’s the solution:
–I’ve got a copy of the show’s pilot that we can use as a template. (Did you know that Trip was originally called “Charlie” ?)
–We’ll write a bunch of wonderful episodes.
–I used to have the release forms for VOY and DS9 when they were still accepting unsolicited subs. Unfortunately, they don’t anymore. So we need an agent.
It’s just a thought. One can always fantasize.
It’s T’Pol
T’Pau was a character from TOS, right? I’m sure the hardcore Trekkies here will let us know. I remember there was an 80’s one-hit wonder band called T’Pau–they sang that song “Heart and Soul”–and they attributed their band name to Star Trek.
The “you’ve been surgically altered” line came after they ripped off the foreheads, when the bad guys were staring at the humans’ smooth foreheads.
I really like saying forehead. Forehead forehead forehead.
Forehead? I have Fivehead!
[sub]and the lamest joke in the thread award goes to…envelope please…Tars Tarkas!!
I’d like to thank all the little people who voted for me…[/sub]
Thanks, Cervaise.
You know, one of the things that I liked about this episode (and the one with the Klingons at the Deuterium Mine) was that actions have consequences. You can’t just zoom in, shoot up the bad guys, change civilization and fly away with some witty remarks at the end.
I think that’s a first. And it beats the crap out of Jim Kirk blasting the heck out of a planet because “no-one should live like that”.
I had a bunch of small issues with the episode, including how much stuff the two of them took down – scanners, more communicators, a phase pistol… They should have been sanitized (much in the way that (real world) special forces teams are before going into enemy territory.
And I agree with the person who said, “So what” about the communicator. Imagine if an inventor in the 1880s had discovered a small cell phone. What would he or she have gleaned from it??
Anyway, a good show – I must have missed the koala though.
Well, it’s coming on as a repeat for Tues and Wed UPN viewers.
Just thought I would find it and bring it up to date for new Trek Dopers.
Always helping out, you know?
I don’t remember if this ep had Escalitor, The Mutant Giant Robot Pet of Kn(needsagiantmutantrobotpetapparantly)ckers. Anyone?
