"Enterprise" theme song

Ah. Thanks. I’ll try to keep my eyes peeled next time I catch the show.

The montage is a Good Thing. I’ll frame-by-frame on the TiVo tonight and try to identify the ship that follows the Phoenix.

The song…I don’t dislike it. It has the right idea and a decent melody. I’d rather it were an instrumental, though.

I believe that craft shown in the montage is supposed to be the X-33, or a similar NASA single-stage-to-orbit heavy lift replacement for the Orbiter.

That theme song sucks ass, man. Might as well have hauled in Barry Manilow to do it. I’ve wanted to make fun of it for weeks now, but I hate it so much I haven’t bothered to learn the lyrics or the tune.

So, what are the lyrics, anyway?

I know which ship you’re talking about, but I don’t think this is the ship I saw. First off, they already used the X33 image in the montage, when it was un-docking from the International Space Station. The ship I’m referring to is right after the Phoenix snip-it, but just before the Enterprise snip-it. The ship had 2 warp nacelles attached to it, and was orbiting a strange new world. Look closely the next time you the intro, it goes by pretty quickly, but you should be able to catch it.

!!!

You guys are way too far into this Star Trek thing. Ever think it might just be a bit of cobbled together parts the special effects crew put together for dimension and size relationships to give depth to the shot?? That it actually does not exist in Star Trek!!!???

Huh? Huh?

Darn! I sure hope they did not include any space debris or you guys will spend years speculating on it’s meaning, where it was from, and if it was part of some Federation Ship of Captain Kirk’s discarded hanky!!

‘OR Captain Kirks discarded hanky’ is what I meant to say. Sorry.

I’m looking at the frames in question now. It’s mostly a straight-on aft shot, so I can’t tell very much about it. It definitely has warp nacelles, in what appears to be a fixed position very like NX-01. It has 7 thrusters in the rear, 3 large and 4 small, with the 4 small in a centered square around the largest port and the other two large ports flanking. These may be impulse engines, as they resemble the thrusters in the rear shot of NX-01 leaving orbit a few seconds later. NX-01 only shows 4 ports, in a different arrangement, in that shot.

The very beginning of the shot is of the underside of the vessel as it “passes over the camera”. The front seems to show the classic saucer (the perspective could be throwing me off–it might be spherical) attached to a rectangular central section. The entire body is shallow compared to its width–the proportions look similar to the X33. The surface is highly irregular, rather than the smooth hull we’ve seen elsewhere.

There’s not much to base a conclusion on–it could be meant to be a view of the NX-01, and they did something funky with the engine ports, or it could be some other unnamed warp ship–an ill-fated NX-00 or a warp-equipped spaceplane that was experimented with between the Phoenix and the Enterprise. Or it might not be.

[sigh]
Am I really way too far into this thing? I rarely if ever talk trek, I’ve never been to a convention, and I really didn’t follow Voyager and DS9 that much. All of a sudden, I try to be as detailed as possible about something I’ve noticed on Enterprise (which is really good IMHO) for the sole purpose of my personal entertainment, and I’m wayyy too far into this Star Trek thing. [/sigh]

Maybe it would be easier if we all started talking about some other TV show that annoys only a few people. I propose “ER” or “NYPD Blue”. ewwwww.

I’m too depressed to keep writing, I’m going to read my Star Trek Encyclopedia.

I am not a trekkie, I am a man!!!

Yeah, that is a pretty good way of describing it. But you say it like it could conceivably be a good thing… (does anyone know the correct smilie for “shuddering with horror”?)

It’s not a BAD song…but it’s NOT a Star Trek theme…

ST themes shouldn’t have lyrics (at least not that are ever actually used.), simple as that.

Quoth Swede Hollow: “I do think it is out-of-line with the rest of the Star Trek universe with their orchestrated themes.”

Does the original Star Trek’s theme count as “orchestrated”? I never liked it. I don’t think Enterprise’s song is that bad, and certainly not because it’s different. Why should all Star Treks be alike? The feel of this series is definitely distinct from the others in several ways.

I love Enterprise, and I love the theme song. It’s so singable to me. I’m singing it right now, in fact!

“It’s been a long road gettin’ from there to here…”

so beautiful! <sniff>

:stuck_out_tongue:

“cuz i got faith, of the heart…”
AAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!! Kill me now!!! i can’t help it!!!

Worst song EVER.

I can’t even begin to quantify the loathing I have for this awful awful awful peice of musical dribbling. Even deaf people hate it Horrific. A crime against humanity. Even my mother hates it. Bad beyond all possible dimensions of badness.

You’re angry, hurt, and a little frightened, as well you should be. Don’t let it drag you down! Now, thanks to advanced inter-web technology, you can fight back.

I’m still fairly new to the SDMB. I lurk more than I post. When I do post, I try to contribute… even if it’s just a short quip or to make a minor point. I know it’s bad form to bump an old thread to the front page without a good reason. After all, somebody’s thread will fall off the front page as a result.

However, I have been taping Enterprise and have only just now had the opportunity to watch the first episode. And sometimes you just gotta be a little selfish and take the opportunity to say what you gotta say, even if it doesn’t really add to what’s already been expressed, even if it’s a minor breach of board etiquette, just to get it out of your system:

Enterprise theme song BAD! Bad, bad, BAD! Yuck! What the hell? Ugh, ugh, UGH! Egad! Suck-o-rama! Yeeeeesh. I mean… ugggggggggh!

Thank you all for your indulgence.

Wasn’t this crappy song an the radio a few years ago? I know it is being played now.

I agree that this theme song is tripe. After all, it is written by Diane Warren (www.realsongs.com), mistress of mediocrity.

Diane has written such recent hits as “Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing” (from “Armageddon” (I know movie titles should be underlined, but I don’t know how to do that yet…check the post count)), “Because You Loved Me” (from “Up Close and Personal”), and “How Do I Live” (from “Con Air”).

So maybe if you were on the fence about the theme song before this information will help you decide.

Heee, heee, I got hijacked (big surprise) … I have only seen the opening montage once… cause I tape the program and fast forward through the opening part so I don’t have to hear the bloody song – what the hell were they thinking?

Thank you Bristlesage! Let me just add to that information by reminding everyone that Faith of the Heart was the music played in the closing credits of Patch Adams, except it was performed by Rod Stewart. Ewww!

So to recap… written by Diane Warren, performed by Rod Stewart, in the credits of Patch Adams… these are all BAD things, people!

Enterprise is carrying on the proud new tradition of Star Trek (as started by Voyager) - to suckily go where no Star Trek series has gone before. To ruin the vision of Roddenbury, to cheapen the Star Trek experience, to drive the fans away, to once and for all wind up the Star Trek machine. The song is really quite effective at encapsulating all of those goals.
