This should, by all rights, cause a Constitutional crisis – the Executive is refusing to follow a Congressionally executed law (and one that was signed by the President, IIRC!). We’ll see what Congress does about it (this Congress? probably nothing…).
I’d need to search but I feel like Bondi or one of them stated, 6-8 months ago, that they were reviewing and redacting all the hundreds of thousands of documents and images for public release. That implies that, effectively, all this work is already done or that they were lying at the time.
My expectation would be that they try to release things to feed a bit of Trump connection out in relatively equal batches, but where the connection between the men becomes slightly more questionable with each release. I.e. the formal gaslighting process.
If that’s true, that needs to be shoved in their faces by someone in Congress who can plausibly accuse them of deliberately slowing this down for no valid reason.
Hypothetically if someone at DOJ got ahold of the files and released them without Bondi’s approval what would happen and what could they be charged with?
Hypothetically, if anyone or, preferably, multiple people, have access to these files, this would be the time for someone to leak them. Right now, before the end of the day. I’d like to think whatever is in those files will be such a big deal that looking for the person that leaked them, on the day they were due to be released anyways, would be overlooked. Especially if the person does it in an, at least somewhat, covert way.
There’s no way that Blanche dude is releasing anything damaging to Trump. They’ll black out entire pages before doing that.
Then bring Bill Barr back in to explain to the cultists that Trump is totally exonerated of any untoward accusations.
No, I’m being sarcastic. This is where Barr comes around, calls a presser and explains how this demonstrates that Trump is in the clear.
“I’ve read the whole thing and didn’t see Trump’s name once. Forget all about this.”
Bunches of stuff, Prison up to 8 years +. Releasing Grand Jury stuff without authorization is a crime.
I said as much, several times. Nothing actually criminal in there anyway, but the most embarring stuff to this administration will be redacted. If you give the fox the keys to the henhouse, what do you expect?
