This is incorrect. H.R.4405, the Epstein Files Transparency Act, became Public Law No: 119-38 on November 19.
There are some caveats: the law specifies unclassified records, it must pertain to a list of nine related topics, and there are five grounds for withholding. See the text linked above.
H.R. 4405, the “Epstein Files Transparency Act,” which requires the Attorney General to release all documents and records in possession of the Department of Justice relating to Jeffrey Epstein, and for other purposes.
Note that "in possession of the Department of Justice ", But yes, you are correct, I was wrong I thought it was just a re
solution. In any case- it aint being done, and it wont be done without massive editing.
Enough loopholes so that the magical "files’ will never be released.
But even if they were, dont expect anything from them that would convict trump.
The government must file a report if it withholds anything.
If that report said that 2 million files had been released and 3 million had been kept under wraps, I’d read that as suspicious.
If we imagine that Epstein was working with the CIA (to postulate the case most likely to survive a national security review), you’re often trying to keep stuff under wraps in order to protect your sources and means.
Epstein is dead. His bud, Jean Brunel, is dead. Maxwell is in a Federal prison. We might conceive that there are still girls (i.e. agents) who were “developed” by Epstein, or software that was developed by Epstein, or whatever it is that we’re imagining that he could have done for the Federal government that still need to be protected. In theory, you can redact around any of that to ensure that a full picture of his non-CIA life is presented, minus these elements that strictly surround these sources and methods.
3 million in reserve would be a lot.
They could be dupes and blank pages. That’s fine, but there should be an explanation to confirm or deny that.
And that report was due January 3, but was not provided. What consequences has the government faced for not providing it? What consequences has it faced for not releasing the documents by the December 19 deadline?
It can work temporarily if the appropriate dog is wagged. But it will never go away. There will never, ever be a day where people say “wasn’t there some story in the news about Donald Trump being deeply involved with a child sex trafficker? No, couldn’t have been!” The Epstein files will follow Trump to his grave and once he is dead they will hopefully be opened up even further since he won’t be able to block them any longer and no one else will gain from protecting him. So while right now is indeed as good as it can possibly get for him, there is zero chance that this will ever get better. It can only get worse for him and eventually it will.
