Er - 04/08

Oh, I have to admit, it made me cry.

I also wonder if they plan to (Ooh, I hope I do the spoiler thing right, because Ive never tried it before.):

Kill off Gallant in Iraq, so that case will be dropped, if the family does decide to sue.
And because I don’t feel like making two spoiled boxes, the scene with Abby and Kerri at the end is what made me cry. :frowning:

Well, I kind of knew where it was going, as soon as Carrie decided to go into the OR with them. And I really kind of expected the the crap with her family, too. Suck-ass day in the ER, but a really good episode.

I usually don’t cry at ER, but this episode got to me. However, that scene was chilling because that’s when I realized where they were going to go with this storyline.
It’s hard to believe that Kerri didn’t adopt the kid if that option is available in Illinois. Is it?

I guess Gallant is destined to always have crushes with no payoff. One kiss and goodbye. I don’t see any realistic way to bring Gallant back anytime soon while we are increasing our troop presence in Iraq except for injury. Is the actor leaving the show?
After hearing that Sandi was going to be killed off, I expected the family would try and take the baby. I just never expected it to be that sudden or that harsh, I figured they’d do some long drawn-out legal battle I guess.

I made it thru Sandi dying, and even Abby boobing Carrie, but that scene at the end made me just ill.

IMHO that show has picked up a little in the past year, but that episode erases all gains. It seems like whenever they get stuck for plotlines, they just kill off a cast member. In one fell swoop, they end one of the better, more human plotlines of the last season (Kerry and Sandi) and also probably dramatically reduce the screen time of my favorite character (Gallant).

Sucks.

Even if Kerri did adopt she doesn’t have her baby at the moment. It is possible that a legal battle will come, and she may have adopted the kid. I think that starting it off this way, with the family having the child, makes for greater impact.

So who are the doctors? Susan’ll be on maternity, Carter’s in Africa, Gallant’s in Iraq, Abbey failed her boards, Carrie will be out on bereavement and involved in a custody battle…

Who’s left?

Please pardon the rant. Feel free to skip to the next post.

Gallant has a goatee… IN UNIFORM! My God isn’t there anyone on that set with military experience? A grip? Food service? Early inthe episode when he first mentioned going to Iraq I turned to my wife and asked why he had a goatee and she said maybe he grows it back between drills. Then he shows up in uniform with it  And anyone wearing a beret that looks like that should have a loaf of french bread under his arm.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled posts.

Yeah, I figured they were going to in the direction they did, even down to the drama with the baby.

I noticed the thing with the goatee too. I don’t know why they allowed that. I know my husband has failed or almost failed inspections with much, much less than that.

I agree. I don’t think I’ll really bother to watch this much anymore. Killing off people, especially the regular’s significant others, seems to be too common now. When I saw Sandi was going to be injured, I knew she’d die and I knew there’d be some custody battle for the kid.

It seems like everything has been done before. S.O.'s dying (or coming close), everyone being pregnant, custody battles (the black doc who left who’s name I already forgot), doctors going to Africa (over and over again), med students killing patients. It’s become very boring and predictable. Hey, isn’t it time for Abby’s crazy family to come visit again? No wait, that would happen in a Sweeps month, so maybe in May.

I don’t think there will be any new episodes before May. To venture a guess about sweeps, Kerry and Luka and Carter will be the only attendings, with Kerry preoccupied in legal battles. So they will focus on Luka and Carter. My guess is there is a lot of plot coming up on that new squirrel-looking nurse and Luka, and Carter and the hot foreign pregnant girlfriend.

Maybe they will attempt a Gallant-in-Iraq episode. Anybody want to share some spoiler boxed spoilers from Television Without Pity?

…don’t they love to advertise shows this way?

AFAIK, Kerry is the only homosexual character in a committed relationship with a child and dead “spouse” in the ER. How else are the Hollywood libs going to show the evils of a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage? Isn’t that the message here?

No doubt I’ll hear tomorrow from my SO how my yelling obscenities at our TV after he’s gone to bed is rude as all get-out. But I was foaming-at-the-mouth mad. Whatever your politics are, you just don’t withhold contact between a mother and her child within 24 hours of her SO dying. That’s just not fucking right.

woops, there I go again.

I’ve never seen Kerry look so helpless as she did standing in front of that door. Not right. Nope. Not even close.

Incidently, I thought Elizabeth could have been a little more sympathetic with Kerry (after Sandi’s death) given the fact that she also lost her spouse.

What’s up with her anyway?

I don’t think that’s too likely unless they do it this season - I read somewhere that Sharif Atkins is going to be in a new show called Pearl City as a cop.

I thought she was trying but I don’t think Elizabeth has ever been any good at that sort of thing. I think that goes along with how surgeons are usually portrayed.

I was sort of missing Romano, whom I could just imagine saying to Kerry “I sure hope you had the good sense and foresight to legally adopt that kid.”

Well, you know, Lizzie was crying during the surgery. Right after they were talking about meeting in the hospital, and Mark. And her voice sounded like she was about to cry when they were using the paddles. Afterward, she was sympathetic in about the only way she could without overstepping, by offering to talk to the in-laws. She and Kerry never were close, after all. What was she supposed to do, fall into her arms weeping about how horrible it is to be widowed? It wouldn’t have fit with their relationship.

I can do you better, these are from-the-script spoilers from the remaining episodes this season – not too too spoiled, though, I’ve left plenty for the imagination.
Focus on Carter: He and Kem come back from Africa and he gets frisky with the Carter family millions in a good way, but, because no one who works in the ER is allowed to be happy, there is a major curve thrown his way that’s going to shake up his world more than anything – anything he’s gone through up to this point, and that’s saying something, but that’s all I’ll say.

Focus on Luka: Luka and Sam’s relationship actually seems to be going pretty well. He’s settling down, getting back to being the family man he was back before some scumsuckers blew his Mrs. and his babies to kingdom come. Of course, no one who works in the ER is allowed to be happy, so of course there is a challenge to the relationship. That’s all I’ll say.

Focus on Kerry: As foreshadowed by tonight’s episode, she’s in for a custody battle with the Lopez clan, because no one who works in the ER is allowed to be happy. The firefighters will rally behind her, as will her colleagues, but will that be enough? That’s all I’ll say.

Focus on Jing-Mei: Her father’s situation will continue to weigh heavily on her, as will her increasingly frequent bouts of being the primary attending on duty and, let’s not forget, no one who works in the ER is allowed to be happy. Who will she turn to in order to salve her pain? That’s all I’ll say.

Focus on Neela: She passed the boards, but she doesn’t have confidence in herself nor the confidence of her training physicians. This leaves her in a terrible life crisis, because, as we know, no one who works in the ER is allowed to be happy. Where shall Neela go in the future? Is she destined to be the slightly spazzy but very smart girl who should only be in a lab or will she have a Deb “Call me Jing-Mei” Chen style turnaround and become a decent doc? That’s all I’ll say.

Focus on Abby: She failed her boards, but she’s got promise, she’s got spunk, she knows patients and is great clinically, if not with the science. No one who works in the ER is allowed to be happy, at least not for long, but perhaps there is a glimmer of hope in Abby’s future? That’s all I’ll say.

Focus on Elizabeth: She’s the new head of surgery? It would’ve been nice to have been asked! But she’s got somewhat bigger problems – she’s a single mom and juggling two men. Now, no one who works in the ER is allowed to be happy, but she’s only in the ER sometime, so can something finally go right for our favorite Britdoc? Could be, but we must also remember that she’s the widow of a man who had a child from his first marriage, and that could be a future consideration. That’s all I’ll say.
Homosexuals + partnership = at least one dead homosexual. Glad to see ER is keeping up the tradition.

I guess I’m the only one who totally did not think Sandi was going to actually die. Damn it! That’s just not right to do that to me right before I go to bed. So there I am lying awake worrying about Kerry’s parental rights.
I may have just totally invented this, but I could have sworn that Sandi’s artificial insemination was done with Kerry’s egg. In that case, Henry would biologically be Kerry’s and should have no problem getting him back.
TeaElle, you didn’t mention anything about Susan. Eh, never mind. I can see that one coming a mile away … since no one in the ER is allowed to be happy, there will be some big childbirth crisis in which Susan’s and/or the baby’s lives will be in danger. Ditto for Carter and Kem, although I can’t help but hope in that case that they kill Kem off. I really just can’t tolerate her.

TeaElle, one question:

So, is anyone in the ER allowed to be happy the rest of this season?

I saw the custody thing as soon as Kerry made the comment about Sandy’s mom thinking they were “pervs” at the beginning. We knew from the previews that Sandy got hurt, so I figured she would die and there’d be a custody battle. The baby’s still pretty young - they may not have started the adoption process yet.
And we already saw this storyline with Peter Benton and Reese, when Carla died and her new husband tried to get custody.

Interesting spin on the vet who was a supposed drug seeker. I also take Imitrex (he was asking for Percodan, and then selling the Percodan to get money to buy Imitrex, a migraine reliever), and you’re damn right it’s expensive. $140 for two doses.

I also heard Gallant was leaving the show, so this was the way of writing him out. Oh, and Loach? As for why Gallant had a goatee in uniform? It’s because he looks so damn goooood in it. Okay, I’ll stop now.
