Ok, I figured I’d go ahead and start this up, since I have a question.
What did Sam’s kid do that she had to go pick him up? And I’m almost positive that Sam & Luka will get together. When she walked in on the kid asleep in the lounge, I expected him not to have eaten his food so that Sam and Luka would have to save him.
The kid with the neck…gack. It wasn’t gross, but I didn’t expect it. I felt bad for Pratt this episode: nothing went right at all. And wasn’t he supposed to have a lead shield on when they were doing the scan on neck kid’s father? What’s going to happen from that? (I’m not sure that he was in a huge amount of danger, but I could see it getting used somehow.)
Red-haired incompetent resident kid: I think he took something that made him puke. After all, Carter’s back, and he’s an unknown for this kid. So he has to see what he can use to get out of work now and avoid any responsibility. I also expected him to have taken the valium that was missing at the beginning of the episode, but that was wrong.
Idiot Red head might Have jsut ben high on something. Thank God luca’s not leaving, casue if he does, they will be too short staffed to get rid of him.
As Far as Pratt and the MRI he made a point of saying since the old guy wasn’t wearing any lead, he didn’t need it etheir. the radiation is only dangrous if it builds up to lethal levels. One ot two exposers a month woudn’t be that bad (I think). I mean people with cronic problems do get that many x-rays right?
I believe Sam’s son gave himself sutures – she said something about that while Carter was stitching himself up. I was expecting something bad to have happened when she found him asleep in the lounge, too… and I’m convinced something will happen between Sam and Luka. And I think it could be good for them…
Poor Pratt, indeed. I hope Gallant’s sister changes her mind, or something.
I was so expecting Gallant to walk in on Pratt and his sister, um… “in the act”. Thank God he was just shaving in the bathroom.
Yes, Sam’s son gave himself sutures. They weren’t clear on how he got injured, so I guess it was just a school yard cut, so he decided to stitch himself up.
That idiot redhead guy: man, I wish they’d reveal where they’re going with this! Some clues: He denied smoking pot when Pratt smelled him (said it was his roomate), when he got caught smoking a glaucoma patient’s weed out front of the hospital his first words of panicked explanation were “it’s not what you think” to Dr. Romano, now he’s throwing up on-shift.
He’s definately on the drugs, but I think there’s going to be some deeper reasoning revealed later.
There were a lot of good camera ngles on this show that said a lot visually. They really played up the size and elegance of Carter’s mansion, thus playing up his social position. That’ll come back in later episodes. I WAG it’ll have something to do with him giving a whole lot of money to the African effort or something.
Also the end shot of both Carter and Luka tending to their future responsibilities was beautiful. Luka helping the kid into the car, and obviously deciding to push back his return to the Congo, while in the foreground Carter and his g/f fawn over their ultra-sound photo.
Speaking of that photo, that was taken with one of those new generation ultra-sound machines. I live in a metro-city of close to 1 million people and we have 1 of those at the University hospital… would a charity hospital even have one of those?
What was wrong with the kid whose neck Pratt broke? I mean, what was wrong with him before he came into the hospital? He already had that custom-made neck brace on, and made references to the fact that he didn’t get out of the house much. I missed something when he and his father were first brought in (my son got up asking for a drink of water).
I thought he was maybe already paralyzed, but obviously that wasn’t the case.
I just assumed that Morris (the red-headed med student) just had a case of the flu, since it was mentioned at the beginning of the show. They do seem to be leading up to something with that character, though.
Having my first kid on the way, I was wondering about that, too. I have never seen nor heard of that. I guess it is a computer enhanced ultrasound that gives a 3D image. I was wondering if that was real or made-up.
Didn’t you see “Unbreakable”?
Ahhhhh! I loved seeing Pratt get used. I was waiting for him to do an “American Pie” and say, “I was used! And I LIKED it!”
I’m a little concerned about the other med student. If you’re so prone to sympathy hurl, well, maybe you ought to rethink your career plans, especially seeing as there’s at least one vomit scene in every episode of late.
Anybody else see the obvious coming? Carter is entirely too happy for a show that revels in morose people, so I’m convinced they are going to kill off his girlfriend in short order, plunging him back into depression and drugs. Or not.
When that old guy was getting an MRI, Pratt and the nurse were in the room and both wearing metal. I always thought the MRI was a giant magnet??
When I went in for some scan a few years back, I was told to take off anything with metal in it. But last night, Pratt brought an IV stand into the room, was wearing a metal stethescope around his neck, had jewlery on, etc.
Well, MRI does stand for Magnetic Resonance Imaging or something very similar, so you could be absolutely correct. Perhaps a doc will be along to confirm.
It wasn’t an MRI, those take a long time. It was a CT scan of the abdomen which can be done in under a minute and are commonly used in an ER setting to locate injuries from blunt traumas.
The 3D ultrasound is a recent product from GE, there was a thread about it several months ago. It’s even more impressive than you might think… it’s actually a 4D machine. It can show 3D images in realtime. It’s a pretty advanced machine, but the hospital I work at has one in their OB/GYN clinic.
GE 4D Ultrasound - complete with a video of what it looks like. And it actually looks like that too.
My hope is that Sam and her son will go to Africa with Luka and stay there, preferably taking the redhead medical student and Ming Na with them. Romano will return as a ghost and Paul Rudd will join the cast as an internist who also happens to be a nudist.
Yes, Romano haunting the ER, popping up in the middle of emesis basins like Nearly Headless Nick to berate the interns and staff would be some serious sweeps shit.
I think Noah Wylie is leaving the show at the end of this season, so I’m guessing (not a spoiler, just my own speculation) that Carter and Kem will have their baby, and then go back to Africa with his grandmother’s billons and build Carter Family AIDS clinics all over the place with the money.
There’s been some build-up to this, with how moved he was by the conditions in Africa, and one bit with the lawyers calling, and how he’s now been made president (or whatever you call it … Head Money-Giver-Outer?) of his family’s philanthropic fund.
I haven’t heard that Noah Wylie is leaving the show. IIRC, he was just taking time off this season to spend time with his new child, but I thought he had signed on for another season.
My guess is that either she stays with Carter in the States or they split up and she goes back to Africa with the baby.
