No ER thread for 11/13? What's wrong with you people?

So, after Kovac’s questionable diagnosis of the appendix patient - how much longer until he’s tossed from the hospital? He’s a lawsuit waiting to happen. And that slick move Dr. Lewis makes by hiding Romano’s hand - I couldn’t figure out how Romano did the “rear exam” with a missing hand. What hospital would put up with a kid wandering around at will?

The whole Bob Newhart thing just made me so sad, and TV doesn’t usually affect me like that. I knew it was coming, but not how or under what circumstances. I think it’s Emmy time for Bob.

Loved the deal with the hand. But I sure am going to miss Dr. Romano.

Two posts in and no discussion of seriousart’s greeting card?!

(I actually TiVoed this and haven’t watched it yet…does it feature prominently?)

:smack: I completely forgot to look for it - I was doing classwork at the same time, so I don’t know.
Has Romano ever gone around grabbing women’s asses before on the show? It just seemed way out of character to me, but there was a period that I didn’t watch the show at all.

I really think that the grabbing was inadvertent. He’s a prick, but not THAT kind.

I loved the little smile on Newhart’s face before he pulled the trigger. I think he was imagining the scene when the parametics found his DNR note taped to his chest. It was a very good performance by him.

Why did Luka, who is on a huge trip about cutting costs for unnecessary tests, give Sam’s kid a completely unneeded (and unauthorized) head x-ray? He might get slammed for any number of things one of these days.

The idea of Leela and Abby studying together is so cute. Maybe Abby will loosen up a bit and start enjoying life. Plus, Abby was initially on the carpet for missing the head trauma on the kid but she came out vindicated in the end. Nice ego boost.

At first I though Abby was losing her cool at the boyfriend but then I imagined someone like Mark Green or Clooney going after the guy and realized that I would have applauded them. Interesting gender issue, made me think about how we expect men and women to act differently. It was odd seeing Abby in that righteous mode when she’s in a position of authority (doctor) vs a subordinate (nurse).

Scenes from next week:

Are you coming?

Who is going to go off on Romano and give him back what he’s been dishing out?

Let’s just call it Revenge of the Helicopter…it tasted Romano’s hand, and is coming back for more…sort of like the crocodile in Peter Pan.

I loved how Sam ripped off Romano’s hand…she’s new, so she wouldn’t know that he doesn’t go around grabbing nurse’s butts, but he did stare at Lucy’s chest that one time.

But I wanted to slap Sam…he’s your kid, you either get a babysitter or take him home. Pawning him off on your co-workers is just unprofessional, considering that you are new.

Poor Bob. At least it wasn’t like Susan stood him up, but I wished she’d been able to take his call.

When Abby left med school, wasn’t she supposed to be 2nd in her class (while being a full time OB nurse)?
So, what happened? Or is she just suddenly not capable?
Or was I supposed to have forgotten that?

I think his character actually has changed. He’s still extremely bitter about losing his arm (and the ability to perform surgery, the only thing he excelled at). He’s venting his frustration by being a jerk to everyone around him. (Just like an earlier episode where he was in a bar and was mouthing off, knowing he was going to get beaten up.) Because of his self-loathing, he is going down a road of self-destructive behavior.
It reminds me of someone we had in our office who transformed from being a reasonable guy into a rude and argumentative jerk in the weeks after his wife left him.

Luka has changed, too. He just didn’t seem to care that one of his patients came back with a burst appendix.

My prediction regarding Luka and Sam:
Sam’s son asked her if he could invite his new friend over for Thanksgiving because the friend had nowhere to go. Sam said “OK”. On Thanksgiving, Sam will be expecting a 10-year-old kid to show up, but it will end up being Luka.

Geez, they make Luka more of a prick every season, don’t they? I know he was orginally supposed to replace Doug, but at least Doug broke protocall trying to help his patients, not just to save a few bucks (but spend them on an unnecessary x-ray! god!) I figure it’ll take another 4 seasons or so of disregard/incompetience before they can his ass though - they must be hard up for help there given some of the doctors they kept around.

Ooh, good one! I didn’t think of that, and I bet you’re right.

She was doing well, but her ex-husband, who was supposed to pay her tuition (I think because she had paid for things while he was going through school) didn’t pay up, and so she was kicked out due to financial reasons and decided not to go back.

There are no special characteristics of the kid mentioned that would make him bond to Luka, and vice versa. So, do you think the x-ray will show the kid has a terminal condition?

I missed the end, having dozed off shortly after Newhart’s suicide. How did Abby get vindicated?

That kid is really starting to get on my nerves. One thing I liked about E.R. is that there weren’t any kids (well, unless they came in injured), just grown-ups with grown-up problems.

Has Keri Weaver been dropped completely?

They compared the xray taken on the first visit and the cat scan (or MRI) taken on the second visit and determined that the skull fracture happened in between. So the father or boyfriend got blamed and taken away by security.

Was the soccer-meth-mom the same actress that played the hyperactive chick in “Real Genius”?

Exactly.
My point is that it makes no sense for her to be struggling so much academically now. The reasons she left had nothing to do with academics, but finances.

Abby took those academic classes several years ago, and is now back doing her rotations. A med student like Neela took those classes much more recently. It makes sense that even though Abby is very competent and is great with the patients, she would be a little rusty on the book stuff.

O.K. I’m hoping I’m not the only one who jumped to this conclusion regarding Newhart’s suicide. . . . so I just have to ask-- When he dropped the knife, found his hands covered in blood, and then made a gut-wrenching facial expression, did anyone else instantly think the knife struck and killed the puppy?

It just seemed like the earlier scenes when he was discussing the puppy training, and then playing with the pooch while vacuuming were leading up to something. But after he dropped the knife, the puppy was never mentioned nor viewed on screen.

My boyfriend believes Newhart sliced his hands while trying to retrieve the knife, but I fail to remember any bandages on his hands while he was holding the phone calling Susan or when he held the gun to his temple.

He seemed to be very attached to the puppy and early in the episode the directors made a point of letting the viewers at home know how very little he could see when looking directly at something.

Maybe I’ve just read too many animal welfare horror stories, but I thought the death of the puppy was the straw that broke Newhart’s back and cemented his decision to commit suicide. . . . .

Your opinions???

I couldn’t watch the parts with Newhart-that was too much for me.

I think it’s pretty obvious it was Luka that Sam’s kid invited to dinner. (What’s his name again?)
