Interesting. Thanks for clearing up my ignorance.
On behalf of my ancestors and their Canadian cousins I hearby apologize for all the linguistic troubles we’re inflicting on the rest of you.
The proper response to “colder then eskimo pussy” is 98.6 F isn’t that cold:dubious:
Not to mention what they think about comments objectifying female body parts.
I wouldn’t jump to that conclusion. I didn’t find it find it to be overly sexist or racist, but I was **horribly **offended at the stupidity of the post.
To tell you the truth, I ignored the thread until it resurfaced here, but you’re right, by tolerating it we appear to condone it.
The OP, in this thread, may be correct that there should have been more outrage but I have a hard time justifying the use of the N-word and pussy, in two separate threads, for any reason.
Isn’t any body part, male or female, an object and not a person? Or was I whooshed here?
May I suggest the phrase colder than Sarah Palin’s campaign hopes for 2012.
Some Eskimos find being called Inuits insulting. I’m not even joking here…
What, that Yupik and Inupiat are not Inuit and resent like hell being referred to as if they were - they’d rather be called Eskimos and be done with it? Sure, I’m cool with that; as cool as a… Oh, here we go again. :smack:
edit: high-fives E-Sabbath
Actually, by tolerating it you do condone it.
Condone doesn’t mean ‘support’, but in supporting something you can condone it.

Inupiat are Inuit.
I, for one, am quite disappointed in Lobohan for misquoting the original line, although Acid Lamp’s was pretty funny.
You deserve a congradulatory pat on the back. Guess you don’t wanna hear the song about my firearms, either?
Well, yes and no.
As to Cat Fight, I guess the thread that enraged her got filed under “silly question deserving silly answer”, and that was what it got until she found it necessary to barge in and scream about nigger pussy.
:dubious:
Dictionaries aren’t Gospel, they’re a systematic categorization of common usage. That’s why using multiple sources (like the one I linked to) is important.
You can use the American Heritage Dictionary: “To overlook, forgive, or disregard (an offense) without protest or censure.”
You can use Dictionary.com: “to disregard or overlook (something illegal, objectionable, or the like).”
You can use Collins Essential English Dictionary: "to overlook or forgive (an offence or wrongdoing) "
Etc, etc, etc…
And, you’ll notice I hope, that you just proved my point, as those are semantically analogous to: "to allow to be or to be done without prohibition, hindrance, or contradiction : to put up with "
You made a common error, that of not understanding that by ignoring something or tolerating something or allowing it to pass without challenge, you are condoning it. It is, unfortunately, a very common error.
The correct response is to correct your ignorance, not to snark back about how you’re giving me an 'English lesson".
If you not only don’t know what you’re talking about, but you’re wrong to boot, it’s the height of arrogance and pretension to claim to give anybody a “lesson” unless it’s an object lesson.
But the point is that you claimed the Inupiat would resent being called Inuit.
Perhaps you are closer to the situation, but given that I don’t mind being called Canadian, Dutch, European or Caucasian, I can’t see that a reference of general ethnicity for the Inupiat would be considered offensive.
To address the truly important issue…
so it’s not really all that cold?
Like any pussy, it helps to warm them up. Whale oil can be really cold up there.
They’re just not Inuit, you.
