I had never seen that clip before, but I just googled it. You just proved my point. The person who was “demeaned”, “objectified”, etc. thought the joke was funny. Some other busy body with a stick up their ass got offended. In the closed-door, the boss told the guy to save that type of thing for his free time, which is what the Dope is. For what it’s worth, that whole thread is still worth a read, it’s one of the funnier things on the Dope. The thread that spawned it was only middlin’ funny, if I do say so myself… especially since men are often not all that complex.
The most fucking annoying thing about this thread is that more than one person here has implied that somehow the responses that were garnered from the original OP were reflective of the Dope as a whole. I didn’t fucking see the thread until now. And even if I had, and had chosen not to participate, it doesn’t make me a fucking racist apologist.

You think I find it absolutely wonderful every time some asshole comedian makes a joke about child abuse or makes fun of some crazy homeless guy? I personally do not find child abuse, mental illness or homelessness all that hilarious. But I have learned through trial and error that you don’t survive in this world without a sense of humor. Eventually your soft spots get poked enough that you grow some thicker skin. Take a fucking chill pill people. If you don’t, you are going to wear yourselves out, and when the real injustices come around you won’t have any energy left to fight them.

I must admit that I am so out of it that I did not know the reference, did not initially think of “Eskimo” as offensive and participated in a silly off-hand way (linking to a picture of a hot looking arctic lynx - my small and stupid way to make fun of and belittle the op), read catfight’s post and was initially whooshed and thought that it was out of line (but did not report) and then (microsecond later) still whooshed, recognized that maybe Eskimo was just as offensive and not silly, but then (it took 45 seconds maybe) learned enough to know that Eskimo is not offensive necessarily (as has been covered, in areas where there are more Natives than Inuits alone, Eskimo may be a more preferred term than inaccurately calling a non-Inuit indiviual Inuit) and by then the thread was locked.
So what have I learned?
Well that my initial non-offense at “Eskimo” was proper. It is not on par with “nigger” or “kike”.
And that some people here are really tightly wound. Wow.
I haven’t learned that I am out of it in though - I knew that already.
BTW Tao’s Revenge, there is a difference between a slur and a statement of ignorance. If there are people who really believe that Actic Natives (Inuit, Yupik, whatever) have a lower body temperature and ask you about it, then they are probably not trying to slur or insult you. They just do not know. Educating them is a reasonable response. The original thread has nothing to do with that ignorance. It was an inappropriate stupid attempt at a joke thread that would have been worthy only of mockery anywhere, totally out of place in GD, but hardly up there even with “nappy headed hos.”

Well catfight considering that the thread had been up for less than 50 minutes when you put up your post and that of those who responded most were mocking the op (well one alluded to the reference but that went over both our heads), yeah your outrage at the lack of outrage seems a bit much, and your chosen method to express your point - that “Eskimo” was, you believed, derogatory and that “pussy” was objectifying - was less than optimal (as you have since realized).
You must also realize that it was pretty obvious that the op was trolling. Maybe I felt a silly mocking response was appropriate, but if I had felt it was clearly offensive my best response would not have been to flame - and thereby feed the troll - my best response would have been the “report post” button and ignoring it. Many probably just did not feed the troll* and figured the mods would be handling it shortly anyhow. To be outraged over that is misplaced I think, even if well intended.
*Not feeding a troll is neither condoning or tolerating BTW.
